Okay, so today I decided to mess around with comparing data from Zimbabwe and Namibia. It wasn’t anything super serious, just wanted to see if I could pull some stats and maybe make a quick comparison.
First, I needed to find a place to get the data. I remember that there are some public APIs available, and started to search for them.
Then, I needed a way to actually grab the information. I used to do web scraping back days, but I thought today it’s better for me to use some free API.
Getting the API Ready
- Searched API: First, I searched some free API that contains data of both countries.
- Wrote the code: Wrote some simple code to fetch the data, and store them to local files, then do the comparision locally.
- Comparison: Did the comparision, and the final results successfully showed.
I spent some time looking at the data. Honestly, most of it was over my head, economic indicators and whatnot. But it was still kinda cool to see the raw numbers side-by-side.
Finally, I just dumped all data I fetched and compared. Pretty basic, I know, but it’s better for future reference.
So, yeah, that was my little data adventure for the day. Nothing groundbreaking, but I learned a bit and had some fun poking around. Might try to visualize the data next time, make it a little more interesting.
