Okay, let’s talk about this Yamaha XT 125. I got my hands on one of these bad boys, the 2009 model, and decided to take it for a spin. I’ve always been into these kinds of bikes. I mean, who doesn’t like that offroad vibe, right?

Getting Started
First things first, I got the bike. It was not brand new, but it was in pretty good shape. This thing’s got a four-stroke, single-cylinder engine. Yeah, it is a 124 cc engine, so it’s not like, a super powerful monster. But hey, it is got enough juice for some fun.
Taking it for a Ride
I started riding around, just getting a feel for it. I noticed it is pretty light, which is cool, it makes it easy to handle. Especially when you are going off-road, you want something that’s not going to be a pain to move around. I also found the seat is pretty comfortable, considering it’s not a giant touring bike, or something.
Off-Road Fun
- Testing the Suspension: So, I took it off-road, right? That’s where this bike is supposed to shine. I hit some bumps, some dirt, and the suspension felt pretty good. It’s got this Monocross thing with a linkage, whatever that means. All I know is it handled the rough stuff pretty well.
- Engine Performance: Now, about the engine. It’s not going to break any speed records. Yamaha made the XT 125 a bit less powerful than the YBR 125, which is kind of a bummer. But I mean, it’s got enough power to get you around. I got it up to around 70 mph, give or take. Which is not too shabby.
- Fuel and Maintenance: One thing I really liked is that it’s cheap to run. I mean, I wasn’t guzzling gas like crazy. I was averaging like, 55 mpg. Also, maintenance seems pretty straightforward. That’s a big plus for me.
Wrapping it Up
So, yeah, that’s my experience with the Yamaha XT 125. It’s a solid little bike. It is great for beginners or anyone who wants something light and easy to handle. The off-road performance is decent. It is not going to win any races, but it is fun to ride. Plus, it is cheap on gas and seems easy to take care of. I heard they made a newer version, the XT125X, which is like a supermoto style. Might have to check that one out someday. But for now, I’m pretty happy with this one. It is a good little machine to mess around on. And that is what I was looking for.
