Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my putting lately, trying to find something that feels really good. I’ve watched Xander Schauffele sink some crazy putts, and I was curious about what he’s using. Turns out, it’s an Odyssey O-Works #7 CH Red putter. I managed to get my hands on one to try it out.
Getting Started
First thing I did was just hold the thing. It’s a mallet-style, which, honestly, I wasn’t super familiar with. I’ve always used a blade putter, so this felt different right away. It’s got some weight to it, but not in a bad way. It felt… stable, I guess is the word.
Hitting Some Putts
I took it to the practice green and started rolling some putts. The red color is pretty bold, but the alignment lines on it are super clear. It was surprisingly easy to get the ball started on the line I wanted. That’s something I’ve struggled with before – pushing or pulling putts.
- First impression: The ball comes off the face smooth. It doesn’t feel clicky or jumpy at all.
- Short putts: These felt almost automatic. The stability of the mallet really helped keep the face square.
- Long putts: This took a little more getting used to. Judging the distance was a bit different than with my old putter, but after a few tries, I started to get the hang of it.
Playing a Round
After getting a feel for it on the practice green,I Used it in my game. The Alignment aid really helps. I have the feeling that I can putt more accurately. I also noticed that I made more putts than usual, especially the shorter ones. I think the forgiveness of the mallet helps a lot on those little mis-hits. Also, the stability helps in it, and made me felt more confident.
The Verdict (So Far)
I’m still getting used to it, but I’m liking it a lot. It feels like a really solid putter, and it’s definitely helped me with my alignment and consistency.I’m gonna keep practicing with it and see if it helps me lower my scores.
