Okay, so I spent a good chunk of my afternoon just rewatching some stuff on Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka. It’s part of how I try to keep sharp, just observing these top guys.
Started with Pereira. Man, that guy’s striking is something else. It’s not just that he hits hard, which, obviously, he does. It’s how he generates it. I remember hearing Adesanya talk about his length creating leverage. You really see it when you watch him closely. He seems kinda stiff sometimes, but then BAM, that left hook or that calf kick comes out of nowhere with serious heat. It’s like pure, relaxed power. Got reminded he lost his last fight though, that decision against Ankalaev. Just goes to show, doesn’t matter how dangerous you are, styles make fights and anyone can get caught or out-pointed on the night.
Then I switched over to Jiri. Talk about a completely different approach. This guy is pure chaos in the cage, but like, controlled chaos? If that makes sense. He’s all movement, weird angles, hands down sometimes. Looks totally unpredictable. It feels like he fights more on instinct, that whole “samurai” thing he talks about. Less about pure textbook technique like Pereira, more about rhythm and finding openings in ways other guys don’t even look for.
It’s just wild having these two guys operate at such a high level with such different styles. Pereira feels like this calculated powerhouse, relying on timing and that incredible leverage. Jiri feels like a force of nature, just flowing and attacking from everywhere.
Thinking about Pereira maybe going up to heavyweight, like some people mentioned after his last fight… that could be interesting. He’s already massive for 205. But heavyweight is a different ballgame. Anyway, just some observations I jotted down while watching. Always fascinating to see the different ways these elite fighters approach the game.
