So yesterday I dug out my old Honda Motocompo from the garage – you know, that weird scooter-looking thing Honda made back in ’81. Been sitting under a tarp since last summer. Figured it’s time for a proper ride and see why people still go nuts over this tiny machine.
First Steps After Unboxing
Grabbed a fresh battery from AutoZone cause the old one was totally dead. Hooked it up and crossed my fingers – pressed that starter button and holy moly it actually sputtered to life! Engine sounded like an angry lawnmower but smoother, kinda nostalgic. Checked the tires and they still had air, which was a miracle.
Testing The Weird Stuff
Okay time for the fun part. That folding mechanism? Still works like butter after 40 years! Pulled the handlebars up real easy, twisted the seat into position – click click click – suddenly this little cube becomes rideable in seconds. Took it around the block trying the “suitcase mode” where you stand on the rear rack. Felt like a total dork but couldn’t stop grinning.
Why This Thing Rocks
- Mini but mighty – 50cc engine shouldn’t go 20mph but this little beast does
- Folding magic – fits in car trunks like it was made for Uber rides (before Uber existed!)
- Built like a tank – mine survived 10 years of neglect without crying
Finished my test run sweating buckets cause it’s July – but couldn’t stop laughing when neighbors kept asking “what IS that thing?”. Point is, this dinky Honda nails something modern stuff misses: pure stupid fun wrapped in genius engineering. No touchscreens, no apps, just kickstart and giggle.
