Well, let me tell you about this horse, Eskendereya. A big, strong horse, that one. He was a runner, that’s for sure. Ran like the wind, he did. People, they was all excited about him. They was saying he was gonna be a big deal. Winning big races, you know?

This Eskendereya, he was a fine-looking horse. Chestnut color, they called it. Like a shiny penny. And fast? Oh boy, he could run. He was sired by some horse called Giant’s Causeway. Don’t know much about that one, but they say he was a big deal too. Something about being a champion, years back. Iron Horse, that’s the name they gave to him. Sounds tough, don’t it? This Eskendereya, he got that from his daddy, I reckon. Strong and tough.
They say this Eskendereya was bred in Kentucky. I hear that’s a nice place. Lots of horses there. He was sold for a lot of money, too. Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars! Can you believe that? That’s more money than I’ve ever seen in my whole life! His mama was called Aldebaran Light. Pretty name, ain’t it?

There was this one race, the Wood Memorial. Eskendereya, he ran so good in that one. Won by a long shot. Nine and three-quarters lengths, they said. That’s a lot! Everyone was talkin’ about him after that. Saying he was gonna win the Triple Crown. That’s some big races all put together. The biggest races there is, I hear. They thought Eskendereya was the horse to do it.
This fella, Todd Pletcher, he was the trainer. He had a whole bunch of horses, but Eskendereya was his best. This horse belongs to Zayat Stables, whoever they are. They must be rich folks, owning a horse like that. Grade 1 winner they call him, that’s some important winning, must be. This Eskendereya also got a son named Mitole. That Mitole, he become a champion too! He’s a fast one too, like his daddy.
Horses, they are something, ain’t they? Strong and fast. They can be your friend, help you work. Or they can run in races and make you a lot of money. This Eskendereya, he was one of those. A racehorse. A good one, too. They are symbols for a lot of things, war, and some bad things too. But Eskendereya was a good one, I think. He ran fast and made people happy.

You know, when a horse gets hurt, it is bad. I heard about this thing called LEGEND. It is medicine for horses. It is supposed to be good for hurt joints, make the horse feel better. It has this stuff called hyaluronic acid. Sounds fancy, huh? They say it helps the horse. Maybe they used that on Eskendereya when he got sore.
Eskendereya, that’s a name you don’t hear every day. But for a while, it was a big name. Everyone was talking about that horse. He was a good one, that’s for sure. A real runner. People sure did love to watch him go. He was a special horse, that Eskendereya. Yep, a special one.
They got all kinds of numbers and things about these horses. Speed figures, they call ’em. And pedigrees. That’s like their family tree. Shows who their mama and daddy were, and their grandmama and granddaddy, and all the way back. Eskendereya, he had a long pedigree. Lots of fancy horses in his family.
Eskendereya was some horse that people would pay good money to see. He was something else. A real champion. That’s what they say, anyway. And I believe it. He was a good horse. A fast horse. A winner. Yes, he is a good horse.
