Who won Season 5 The Ultimate Fighter? Find out about Nate Diazs big victory and the intense final fight.

My Rewatch Journey

Alright, so the other day I got the itch to revisit some old school MMA stuff. Landed on The Ultimate Fighter, Season 5. Seemed like a good one to go back to, you know? Had some time, so I figured, why not.

Pulled it up, found the first episode. Man, seeing Jens Pulver and BJ Penn as coaches again brought back memories. You just knew right away that was gonna be intense. Those two guys genuinely couldn’t stand each other. That alone made me want to watch.

Getting Into It

Settled in and started watching from the beginning. The tryouts, seeing all those guys hungry for a shot. Some looked like killers, others… well, you could tell they wouldn’t last long. Then they picked the teams. Always kinda fun seeing who goes where and the coaches sizing everyone up.

  • The Coaches Clash: Seriously, Pulver and Penn going back and forth was a big part of it. They weren’t faking it. Made the team competition feel way more important.
  • The Fighters: This season had a bunch of guys who made names for themselves. Nate Diaz, of course. Even back then, he was pure Diaz. Joe Lauzon was there, Manny Gamburyan, Gray Maynard. A real solid group came out of this season.
  • The House Life: It’s a reality show, so yeah, there was drama. Guys living together, training hard, getting on each other’s nerves. Fights outside the octagon, arguments, pranks. Kept things interesting between the actual fights.
  • The Training Snippets: You’d see bits of them training with Jens or BJ. Different styles, different approaches. Always kinda cool to see behind the scenes, even just little bits.

Watching It Unfold

I basically just watched it episode by episode over a few days. Followed the fights, saw who moved on in the tournament. Some surprises, some fights went exactly how you thought they would. It’s tough, man, living in that house, cutting weight, then having to fight someone you live with.

I paid pretty close attention to Nate Diaz this time around. Seeing him so young, with that same attitude he always had. Didn’t care who liked him, just came to fight. Flipping guys off, talking his talk. And then he’d go in the cage and back it up. It’s wild seeing the start of his whole thing.

Wrapping Up the Season

Got all the way to the finale. Remember watching Diaz fight Gamburyan. Crazy how Manny dislocated his shoulder like that. Diaz ended up winning, became The Ultimate Fighter for that season.

Finished the last episode. Felt good, like a proper trip down memory lane. That season really captured a moment in time for the sport. Seeing those fighters, knowing what some of them went on to do. It wasn’t just about watching fights; it was seeing the whole grind, the pressure, the personalities clashing in that house. Yeah, it was a good season. Definitely worth watching again if you’re into that era of MMA.
