Alright, so when I hear talk about stuff like “ring girls UFC Noche,” it kinda takes me back. Not to being in the ring or anything, definitely not my scene, but to a time when we tried to, let’s say, capture a tiny bit of that big fight night energy ourselves.
A bunch of us were huge UFC fans, still are, mostly. And for one of these big “Noche” cards, we figured, let’s do a proper viewing party at my place. Go all out, or at least, our version of “all out.” We got the snacks planned, drinks lined up, made sure the TV was good to go. Standard stuff, right?
Then, one of the guys, bless his heart, throws out, “Hey! We should totally get ring girls! How awesome would that be?” We all had a bit of a chuckle. I mean, for a house party? Seemed a bit much. But the idea, it just sorta lingered there, you know? Like a catchy song you can’t get out of your head, even if it’s a bit silly.
So, being the organizer of this shindig, I thought, okay, what would that even entail? Purely for research, you understand. I wasn’t about to put out a casting call or anything. I just started thinking about the practicalities. What, were we gonna ask a couple of our friends’ girlfriends or wives to dress up and carry a cardboard sign between rounds of us yelling at the TV? The thought alone was pretty awkward.
I poked around a bit, just idly looking at costume ideas online, thinking about the logistics. And man, it spiraled quickly. It went from a funny, throwaway comment to this whole debate. Who would do it? What would they wear? Would it be fun, or just kinda weird and forced? We probably spent more time hashing that out than deciding on what pizzas to order. It was getting ridiculous.
It really made me think about those big, slick UFC productions, especially for something like a Noche UFC event. The ring girls are just part of the whole spectacle, right? They glide in, do their thing, and it all looks seamless. But when you try to even remotely consider a tiny, goofy version of that for your own small gathering, you suddenly see all the layers. The presentation, the image, the, well, the whole point of it.
For our party, it just didn’t track. It felt like trying to wear a tuxedo to a backyard barbecue. Overkill, and not really in the spirit of what we were about. We were there for the fights, the camaraderie, the yelling at the screen together. Not to put on a mini-pageant.
So, yeah, we scrapped that idea. Completely. No ring girls at our UFC Noche party. And you know what? We had a blast. The focus was on the sport, on the fighters, on sharing that excitement. It was simple, and it was great.
It’s one of those things, I guess. You see something polished and professional, and it looks effortless. But try to unpack it, or replicate even a small piece of it, and you realize there’s a whole lot more to it. Sometimes, the actual core thing – in this case, the fights – is more than enough. All that extra fluff? It’s fine for the big shows, part of the entertainment, I get it. But for us, it was a good reminder that keeping it real is often the best way to go.
