Alright, so I jumped into Helldivers 2 the other day, and the big question on my mind, like everyone else’s, was: “How many people can REALLY play this thing together?“

First off, I fired up the game solo. Just wanted to get a feel for the controls, the missions, and all that jazz. Did the initial tutorial stuff – you know, shooting bugs and getting blown up a bunch of times. Gets you prepped, I guess.
Next, I tried to squad up with some buddies. We usually play these kinds of games as a group, so this was kinda the point. I sent out some invites through the game’s friend system. It was a little clunky at first; we had some trouble getting everyone in the same lobby. Took us like, a solid ten minutes of fiddling around, closing the game, restarting, all that annoying stuff.
Then, boom! We finally had a squad of four.Four players, that’s the magic number. We hopped into a mission, a relatively easy one to start – gotta ease into the chaos, right?
- We went through the settings to make sure everyone could talk to each other, this is key!
- Then we went to pick an easy mission, a starting planet, and a low difficulty level.
- Finally, we dived in!
The experience was night and day compared to playing solo. Coordinating attacks, covering each other’s backs, and reviving teammates became crucial. It was a blast! Way more fun when you’re strategizing and yelling at your friends to “WATCH OUT FOR THAT GIANT BUG!”
However, we did run into some hiccups. One time, the game crashed on one of my friend’s PC mid-mission. Super annoying. Had to wait for him to reconnect, and by that time, we were swarmed by enemies. Another time, our voice chat glitched out, and we couldn’t hear each other for a few minutes. Communication is vital in this game, so that was a major pain.

Despite the occasional technical issue, playing with a full squad of four is definitely the way to go. The game is designed around it. It’s more challenging, more rewarding, and a hell of a lot more hilarious. We spent hours just screwing around and trying different strategies. I tried using some of the gear I had earned, and man it helped a lot.
So, yeah, that’s my experience with Helldivers 2 so far. Four players are the limit, and that’s where the real fun begins. Just be prepared for some potential bugs (the software kind, not just the alien kind) along the way.
