Alright, let’s talk about this whole Deshaun Watson and Mike Williams trade rumor thing I looked into recently. It popped up on one of my sports feeds, caught my eye because, you know, Watson potentially getting another weapon is always something to talk about, good or bad depending on how you feel.

So, naturally, I wanted to see what was actually being said, if there was any fire to that smoke. First thing I did was just open up my browser and start digging around. I typed in variations like “Watson Williams trade rumors,” “Browns Chargers trade Mike Williams,” stuff like that. Just trying to cast a wide net.
Checking the Usual Spots
I went through the usual routine:
- Checked out the big sports news sites first – ESPN, *, Bleacher Report. Scanned their headlines and reporter feeds. Didn’t see anything concrete from the main guys, the Schefters or Rapoports of the world. That’s usually the first sign something might just be noise.
- Then I dipped into some specific team blogs, both for the Browns and, at the time I was looking, the Chargers (or just general Williams stuff since he became a free agent later). Bloggers often pick up on whispers faster, even if they aren’t always right. Saw a lot of discussion, people debating if it should happen, but not much saying it was happening.
- Hit up social media too, mainly Twitter. Searched the names together. Found tons of fan speculation, hot takes, people arguing back and forth. Some podcasters were talking about it as a hypothetical. Again, lots of chatter, very little substance reported.
What I noticed was that most of the “reports” were pretty vague. They’d say things like “sources suggest” or “there’s buzz,” but nobody was putting their name on a solid confirmation that talks were actually underway. It felt more like people connecting dots – Browns need receiver help, Watson needs to perform, Williams is (or was) available and has talent when healthy.
It seemed like a logical connection for someone to make, especially during the offseason buzz period, but it didn’t feel like it had legs based on what the reliable insiders were saying (or rather, not saying).
So, after maybe half an hour of clicking around and reading different threads and articles, I pretty much came to the conclusion that it was just speculation. Maybe somebody floated the idea, and it caught on because it sounded plausible on the surface, but there wasn’t any real evidence of official talks happening at that point.

That’s usually how these things go. You hear a rumor, you do a quick check of the legit sources, scan the fan talk, and then make a judgment call. This one felt like pure offseason smoke. Fun to think about for a minute, but didn’t seem like anything real was there when I looked.
