So, I had some time on my hands the other day. You know, wrapped up a bunch of stuff, weather wasn’t great for going out. Found myself just scrolling, looking for something decent to watch.
Finding and Starting
Then it hit me, ‘The Amazing Race’! Used to really enjoy that show back in the day. Got this urge to watch season 12 specifically. Don’t ask me why, maybe saw a clip somewhere or just popped into my head. Anyway, had to hunt for it a bit. Streaming services are weird, things appear and disappear. Finally tracked it down, think it was on Paramount+ or maybe Hulu? Can’t quite recall now. Got comfy on the sofa and hit play on episode one.
The Actual Watch
Man, it pulls you right back in. Faster than I expected. I wasn’t planning on a marathon session, but one episode led to another… yeah, I watched quite a few in one sitting. It’s just that addictive race format.
Seeing the teams brought back memories. Some I remembered clearly, others were a bit fuzzy. These teams stood out to me this time around:
- Nicolas and Donald – The grandfather and grandson. Always liked their dynamic. Donald was surprisingly tough.
- Kynt and Vyxsin – The goth couple. Very memorable style, that’s for sure. They had some rough legs.
- TK and Rachel – Quietly consistent. It was interesting watching their journey again, knowing how it ends.
Some of those challenges looked absolutely draining. And the navigation errors! You feel the frustration right through the screen. Honestly, some moments had me yelling at the TV, like “No, don’t go that way!” even though I’ve seen it before.
Places They Went
That season had a pretty cool route too. Started in Los Angeles, then off to Ireland, which looked beautiful but tough with those driving challenges. They hit places like Lithuania, Croatia… even Burkina Faso. Seeing Ouagadougou on the race was pretty different. It’s that mix of tourist spots and really off-the-beaten-path locations that makes the show work, I guess.
Final Thoughts
Overall, it was a really fun re-watch. Felt like proper old-school reality TV. Less manufactured drama, more focus on the race itself and the stress it puts on people. It’s just about teams trying their best (or worst) under pressure. It felt kinda comforting, like revisiting an old friend. Definitely scratched that itch for some classic reality competition.
