My Little Project Log
So, I had this kinda weird idea the other day, you know, just messing around. Thought about that classic cartoon glove look, the white one, four fingers usually. And then, well, the idea of making it do the middle finger gesture popped into my head. Don’t ask why, sometimes weird ideas just happen.
First thing, I needed to figure out how that glove actually looks. I hopped online, just searched for pictures of that famous mouse’s hands. Lots of waving and pointing, mostly friendly stuff. Got a good feel for the shape, the puffy fingers, the two black ovals on the back.
Then, I had to think about the gesture itself. How to make it look right, but still cartoony? It’s tricky because those gloves only have three fingers and a thumb usually. Making one finger stand out while the others curl in needed some thought. I decided I’d just draw it with the standard number of fingers for the gesture, but keep the glove style.
Getting Started
I fired up my usual drawing app on the tablet. Nothing fancy, just the one I use for doodles. Grabbed the stylus and started sketching.
- Tried a few rough shapes first. Getting the roundness of the palm and the sausage-like fingers took a couple of tries.
- Then focused on the main finger. Made it stand up straight. Had to adjust the length a bit so it didn’t look too weird or stubby.
- Curling the other fingers was the next step. Tried to make them tuck in naturally, like a fist but with one finger extended. Erased and redrew this part maybe three or four times until it looked kinda okay.
- Added the thumb, tucked in against the folded fingers.
- Finally, sketched in those two black buttons, or ovals, or whatever they are, on the back of the glove.
Cleaning It Up
The rough sketch was done. Looked a bit messy, but the idea was there. So, I created a new layer over the sketch and started doing the clean lines. Used a smooth black line, tried to keep it bold and simple, like in the old cartoons. Made sure the curves were nice and round.
Coloring was super simple. Filled the glove shape with white. Kept the outline black. Filled those two oval things with black too. I thought about adding shading, but decided against it. Flat colors looked more authentic for that classic style.
Final Look
And that was pretty much it. I zoomed out, looked it over. Tweaked a tiny curve here and there. Made the base of the extended finger slightly thicker. It wasn’t perfect, but it looked like what I had in my head: that iconic white glove flipping the bird. Just a quick, silly exercise, really. Took maybe half an hour from start to finish once I got going. Now it’s just sitting there as a file on my tablet.
