Alright, let me tell you about this annoying little knick injury I dealt with recently. Nothing major, you know, but still a pain.

So, I was in the kitchen, prepping some veggies for dinner. Just chopping away, maybe getting a bit too quick or not paying full attention, who knows? Anyway, the knife slipped. Just a tiny bit, but enough. Bam! Got the side of my finger.
Didn’t hurt much right away, more of a surprise really. I looked down, saw that little line opening up. Not a gusher, thank goodness, but definitely bleeding. You know that bright red? Yeah, that kind. My first thought was just, “Ah, seriously?” More annoyed than anything else.
What I Did Next
Okay, so first things first, I stopped chopping. Dropped the knife (carefully!) and went straight to the sink. Stuck my finger under cold running water. Let it run for a bit, trying to wash out any little bits of onion or whatever might have gotten in there. It stung a little under the water, but felt necessary, you know?
After washing it for maybe a minute or two, I grabbed some paper towels and pressed down on it. Had to apply some pressure to get the bleeding to slow down. It wasn’t terrible, but it was persistent. Held it like that for a few minutes.
Once it seemed like the bleeding was mostly stopped, I went looking for the first-aid stuff. Found some antiseptic wipes. Gave the cut a quick, stinging clean with one of those. Always hate that part, but better safe than sorry, right? Didn’t want it getting infected.

Then, the bandage hunt began. Found a small one, one of those fabric types. I like them better, they seem to stick longer. Popped that sucker on, made sure it was snug over the cut. And that was pretty much it for the immediate action.
The Annoying Healing Part
For the next few days, it was just… annoying.
- Had to be careful washing my hands.
- Typing felt a bit weird with the bandage on my fingertip.
- Needed to change the bandage daily, sometimes more if it got wet or dirty.
It never really hurt much after that first day, just a dull throb sometimes if I bumped it. I kept an eye on it, made sure it didn’t look red or puffy or gross. Looked okay, just slowly healing. Took maybe a week or so for it to close up properly and for me to feel comfortable leaving the bandage off.
Lesson learned? Slow down when chopping veggies, I guess. Or maybe buy one of those chainmail gloves like the butchers use? Nah, probably just need to pay more attention. It’s funny how such a small thing can disrupt your routine for a few days. Just glad it wasn’t worse. Anyway, that’s my little knick story. Stay safe out there!
