What is abbiamo all about? Learn these 3 key things about we have in Italian.

My Journey to “Abbiamo” This Setup

So, “abbiamo.” We have it. Finally. I’m talking about my workspace, my little corner of sanity. It wasn’t always like this, let me tell you.

When all this remote work stuff started, my setup was a joke. I was perched on a dining chair, laptop on a stack of books. My back was killing me. My focus? Non-existent. It was just…chaos. I’d be in meetings, and the cat would decide my keyboard was the warmest spot in the house. You know how it is.

The Breaking Point

I remember one day, I had a super important call. And bam! Internet drops. Laptop battery dies. My kid spills juice nearby. I almost threw the whole thing out the window. That was when I said, “Enough. We need a proper solution.” We, meaning me and my sanity, needed to have something better.

The Long Road to “Abbiamo”

So, the hunt began. I first thought a fancy ergonomic chair would solve everything. Dropped a bunch of cash. It helped, sure, but the desk was still too low. Then I got a standing desk converter. Better, but then my monitors were at weird heights. It was like playing whack-a-mole with problems.

  • Tried multiple monitor arms – some were flimsy, others wouldn’t hold the weight.
  • Cable management? Don’t even get me started. Looked like a spaghetti monster exploded under my desk for a while.
  • Lighting was another beast. Too dark, then too much glare on the screen. I bought so many lamps, felt like I was opening a store.

It felt like I was spending more time trying to fix the setup than actually working. Each little “fix” just highlighted another problem. Frustrating, to say the least. I was just chasing my tail.

What “Abbiamo” Looks Like Now

But slowly, piece by piece, it came together. And now, “abbiamo” – we have it. What do we have?

A setup that actually works for me.

  • A solid desk, at the right height. No more converters making things wobbly.
  • A chair that’s good, but not necessarily the most expensive one out there. It just fits my body.
  • Dual monitors on proper, sturdy arms, positioned perfectly. Took ages to get that right, moving them a tiny bit each day.
  • All cables? Tied down, mostly hidden away. It’s clean. So clean compared to before.
  • Decent lighting, a good microphone so people can actually hear me, and a reliable internet connection (finally got that sorted too, what a saga that was!).

It’s not about having the fanciest gear, though some of it is decent now after all that trial and error. It’s about having a space where I can just sit down and get things done without fighting my environment. That’s what “abbiamo” means in this context. We have achieved a state of functional peace, a working sanctuary.

It took time. It took trial and error. A lot of error, actually. Plenty of stuff bought and then returned or sold. But looking at it now, this little corner, yeah, “abbiamo.” We finally got there. And honestly, it makes a huge difference to my day. Just being comfortable and having things work without a fuss. That’s the win.
