Okay, so I finally got my hands on Black Ops 6, and the first thing I wanted to try, like really wanted to try, was getting split-screen going. You know, for some couch co-op action. Here’s how it went down for me.
Getting Started
First off, obviously, I had the game installed on my console. Pretty straightforward stuff. Downloaded, installed, updated – the usual drill. Took a while, but worth the wait, I hoped.
Then, I grabbed my controllers. Made sure both were charged up. Nothing worse than a controller dying mid-session, right? I used the main one I always use and dug out the spare one I keep for moments like these.
Connecting the Second Player
Alright, game booted up. Looks slick. Navigated through the initial menus. Now, the important part. I turned on the second controller. The console picked it up right away.
It asked for a profile for the second player. My buddy was over, so he just logged into his own profile. If you don’t have a second profile, you can usually just sign in as a guest, though sometimes that limits saving progress or unlocks. We went with his profile to keep things simple.
Finding the Split-Screen Option
This is where it sometimes gets tricky in games, finding the actual option. I went straight into the Multiplayer menu. That’s usually where split-screen lives in Call of Duty games.
Looked around the lobby screen. Didn’t see an immediate “Add Split-Screen Player” button like in some older titles. Then I noticed a little prompt down at the bottom of the screen. It showed the icon for the X button (on PlayStation, might be A on Xbox) and said something like “Press X to Join”. This prompt only showed up after the second controller was connected and signed in.
Activating Split-Screen
So, my friend picked up his controller, the one already signed in, and pressed the button indicated (X for us). Bam! The screen flickered for a second, and then it split, either horizontally or vertically – I think it defaulted to horizontal first. His player profile popped up right there in the lobby list next to mine.
Success! We were both in the pre-game lobby, ready to customize loadouts and jump into a match together on the same screen.
Observations and Finishing Up
- The process was actually pretty smooth once I saw that little prompt. No complicated menus to dig through.
- Performance seemed okay in the few matches we played. Didn’t notice any major frame drops, but we weren’t doing anything too crazy yet.
- We checked the settings later, and yeah, you could usually switch between horizontal and vertical split. We prefer vertical, feels like you get a better field of view that way.
So yeah, that was my experience setting up split-screen in Black Ops 6. Pretty painless, thankfully. Took maybe five minutes total from booting the game to having both of us in a lobby. Now, time to actually play!
