So today I gotta tell you about my little time zone adventure with Dakar time. Seriously, this came outta nowhere.

Earlier, my cousin messaged me, all frantic, needing the time in Senegal right now. He’s trying to set up a video call with a guy there and didn’t wanna call at like 3 AM their time. He hit me up asking, “Yo, what time is it in Dakar?”
And you know what? I froze. Senegal? West Africa somewhere? GMT something? I had absolutely no clue. Pulling out my fancy phone didn’t magically show Dakar time, that’s for sure. Opening my own clock app? Useless. Just showed my home time and like, New York or London maybe.
Okay, first instinct? Google it. Totally obvious, right? I grabbed my laptop, fired up the browser, and just typed “time in dakar” into the search bar. Hit enter.
Boom. Instant answer. Right there at the top of the search results. Google just straight up tells you: “Current local time in Dakar, Senegal” and gives you the time, date, the whole deal. No clicking, no digging. It was literally the first thing I saw. I felt kinda dumb for not trying that first thing.
But hey, I was already messing around, so I figured I’d check a couple more ways.

- World Clock Trick: Went back to my phone, opened the world clock feature in the clock app (I swear I barely use this). Added a new city. Started typing “Da…” and “Dakar, Senegal” popped right up. Tapped it, and there it was – local Dakar time right alongside mine. Neat!
- Ask the Weather App: Weirdly, my weather app also worked? I searched for Dakar weather. Shows the forecast, and sure enough, right underneath… the current local time in Dakar. Who knew?
Honestly, it turned out way simpler than I made it in my head. I definitely overcomplicated it at first, jumping to think I needed some special app or site. Nope.
Google search is the absolute fastest, zero effort. Phone’s world clock is dead easy too. Even the weather app works in a pinch. Now I know, and next time my cousin asks? Took me longer to type this out than it will to get him the answer. Good reminder that sometimes the simplest solutions are right under your nose. No 3 AM calls to Senegal on my watch now!
