So, I finally got around to checking out Heritage Glen Golf Club last week. Been meaning to for a while, just to see what the fuss, if any, was about. You know, hear things here and there, figure I ought to see it with my own eyes.
Getting There and First Look
Booking a tee time wasn’t a complete pain, which, honestly, was a pleasant surprise. Phoned them up, got a spot for a weekday morning. No need to jump through a million hoops or know somebody who knows somebody. That’s always a good start in my book.
The drive out was easy enough. Found the place without any trouble. Parking was, well, parking. Close enough to the clubhouse that you didn’t feel like you were on a pilgrimage before even teeing off. The clubhouse itself looked alright from the outside. Nothing too fancy, but not falling apart either. Headed inside, paid my green fee. The fella behind the counter was all business, not much for chit-chat, but he got me sorted. Pointed me to the first tee, and that was that.
The Course Itself – How It Played
Alright, let’s talk about the golf. This is where it got a bit more interesting. The layout, I’d say, is a bit of a mixed bag. Some holes really make you stop and think, pull out different clubs, really strategize your shot. Then you get a couple that feel like they’re just… there. Kinda like they needed to connect two good parts of the course and threw something in.
The greens, though. Man, those greens were something else. They were fast. And I mean, really fast. Had more than a few putts just zip right on by the cup. Definitely made things tricky, or frustrating, depending on how your day’s going. My putting felt exposed, let me tell you. Guess I know what I need to practice more.
- Fairways: They were mostly in decent shape. Saw a few thin spots, but nothing that would ruin your round. Good enough.
- Rough: It’ll make you pay if you stray. Standard stuff, really. Keep it straight, or else.
- Bunkers: Actually, the sand was pretty consistent. Played fair out of them, which is more than I can say for some places.
Pace of play was tolerable for a weekday. Did get a bit bunched up on the back nine for a hole or two, but hey, that’s golf for you. Nothing that made me want to pack up and leave.
Little Things and Final Thoughts
Didn’t hang around the clubhouse much afterwards. Just grabbed a quick drink to cool down. Looked like your standard golf club setup inside. The other golfers I saw around seemed to be just doing their own thing, keeping to themselves mostly.
One small thing I did notice – could probably do with a few more water stations out on the course. Especially when it gets hot. Saw one or two, but on a scorcher, a couple more would be welcome. Just a thought.
So, Heritage Glen. Yeah, it was an experience. It’s not going to be my all-time favorite course, pretty sure of that. But it wasn’t a waste of a morning either. It’s a solid enough track if you’re in the area and looking for a round that’ll give you a bit of a challenge, especially on and around those greens.
Would I rush back? Probably not tomorrow. But if the mood strikes and I want to see if I can conquer those greens, maybe. It’s one of those places, you know? You play it, you see what it’s about, and you add it to the list of courses you’ve been to. Nothing revolutionary, but a perfectly fine way to spend a few hours chasing that little white ball. That’s my two cents on it, anyway. Just sharing what I found out there.
