Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with creating a “video of a hip drop tackle.” Sounds kinda intense, right? Well, I didn’t actually do a hip drop tackle – safety first, people! – but I wanted to see if I could find some good footage and maybe learn a bit more about them.

Finding Some Footage
First things first, I opened up my browser. I figured YouTube would be a good place to start, so I typed in “hip drop tackle” in the search bar. Boom! A whole bunch of videos popped up.
I clicked on a few that looked promising. Some were news reports talking about the dangers of these tackles, others were highlight reels from football games (mostly rugby and American football, it seemed). I spent a good 20 minutes just watching different clips, trying to get a feel for what exactly constitutes a hip drop tackle.
What I Noticed
It’s pretty clear from the videos that it’s a controversial technique. You see the defender grab the ball carrier, swing their hips around, and then drop their weight onto the ball carrier’s legs. Ouch. Even just watching it made me wince a bit.
- Grab: The defender gets a good hold of the ball carrier.
- Swing: They use their momentum to rotate their hips.
- Drop: Their body weight comes down on the legs.
- Injuries:It looks like some of the injured animation.
Putting it Together (Kind Of)
I’m no video editor, but I did play around with an idea. I thought, what if I found a slow-motion clip? You see many videos of hip drop tackle in * seems to look bad.
So yeah, that was my little experiment for the day. I didn’t create a masterpiece, but I definitely learned something new. And most importantly, I didn’t injure anyone in the process!
