Alright folks, let me tell you about my little Vegas showgirl project. It was a wild ride, lemme tell ya!
So, it all started when I saw this picture online, right? A classic Vegas showgirl. Feathers, glitter, the whole shebang. I thought, “Man, that’s awesome! I gotta try and recreate that.” Now, I’m no expert artist, but I like a challenge.
First thing I did was hit up Google. I needed reference images. I’m talking pictures of showgirls from every angle. The costumes are insane! I spent a good hour just soaking it all in.
Next, I grabbed my trusty sketchbook and started sketching. I’m talking really rough sketches at first, just getting the basic pose and proportions down. I wanted that classic sassy showgirl stance. You know, the one where they’re striking a pose like they own the place?
Then came the fun part – the costume! This is where things got tricky. All those feathers! I decided to break it down into manageable chunks. I started with the headdress. That was a beast in itself. I drew each feather individually, layering them to create that full, dramatic effect. It took ages, I swear!
After the headdress, I moved onto the dress. More feathers, sequins, glitter… you name it. I tried to capture the shimmer and sparkle. It was definitely a challenge to make it look three-dimensional on paper.
Coloring was another hurdle. I experimented with different mediums – colored pencils, markers, even a bit of watercolor. I wanted that vibrant, over-the-top Vegas vibe. Lots of golds, reds, and purples. Think flashy!
The final step was adding the details. I’m talking about the little things that really make it pop – the makeup, the jewelry, the confident expression. I wanted her to radiate that “I’m fabulous” energy.
It took me a good few days, working on it in my spare time. There were definitely moments where I wanted to throw my hands up and quit. But I kept pushing through. And you know what? I’m actually pretty happy with how it turned out.
It’s not perfect, by any means. But it’s my Vegas showgirl. And it reminds me that even a regular joe like me can create something pretty cool with a little bit of effort and a whole lotta glitter!
