Trade LeBron James? Analyzing the Pros and Cons of a Deal

Okay, so, “trade lebron james,” right? Sounds kinda wild, I know, but hear me out. This is how I messed around with the idea.

First off, I fired up 2K24. Gotta have the right tools for the job, you know? I went straight into MyLeague. This is where you can basically be the GM of your own team, or, in this case, all the teams.

Started a new MyLeague. I made sure to use the “Modern Era” roster, so I had the most up-to-date players and teams. Then, I had to find LeBron. Obviously, he’s on the Lakers.

Okay, so, I’m looking at LeBron’s trade value. It’s still pretty high, even though he’s getting up there in age. The game factors in his overall rating, his contract, all that jazz.

Next step was to see what the Lakers actually needed. They’re kinda weak at the guard position in the game, so I figured that’s where I’d focus. I went through every team in the league, checking out their point guards and shooting guards.

I targeted a few guys who were younger, had good potential, and fit the Lakers’ style of play. One guy that stood out was… I think it was Ja Morant on the Grizzlies, pre his suspension stuff in real life of course. He was young, explosive, and would give the Lakers a long-term solution at point guard.

The problem? The Grizzlies weren’t biting. LeBron, even at his age, wasn’t enough for them. I tried adding picks, young players, anything to sweeten the deal. Still no luck. They valued Ja way too much.

So, I had to pivot. Looked around, found another team with a solid young guard. Ended up offering LeBron plus a couple of role players and a first-round pick to the Hawks for Trae Young. They were more willing to listen.

We haggled a bit. They wanted another pick, I countered with a second-rounder. We finally agreed on LeBron, Malik Beasley, a first-round pick, and a second-round pick for Trae Young and a throw-in player to make the salaries work.

Boom! Trade accepted. LeBron James is now a Hawk, and Trae Young is a Laker. The simulation showed the Lakers winning a title the next season, fueled by Trae’s insane offense.

It’s all just a game, obviously, but it was fun to mess around and see what it would take to make a blockbuster trade like that happen. The biggest takeaway? It’s tough to trade a legend, even in a video game.
