Alright, let’s dive into this “80s wrestlers” thing I messed around with today. It was kinda fun, actually.

So, first off, I was just scrolling through some old photos online, you know, procrastinating. And I stumbled upon some pictures of those totally rad wrestlers from the 80s – Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Macho Man Randy Savage. The whole crew. It hit me like a steel chair, “Dude, I gotta try and draw these guys!”
I started by grabbing my sketchbook – a cheap one, nothing fancy – and a pencil. I figured I’d begin with Hulk Hogan. That handlebar mustache and those bulging biceps? Instant classic. I found a decent photo online and just started sketching. I focused on getting the basic shapes down first. Circle for the head, rectangles for the body, that kinda thing. Then I started adding in the details – the mustache, the bandana, the way he’s always flexing.
It was rough, I ain’t gonna lie. My first attempt looked more like a potato with arms than the Hulkster. But I kept at it. Erased a bunch, redrew a bunch. Slowly, but surely, it started to look a little bit like him.
Next up was Macho Man. Oh yeah! That guy was all about the crazy outfits and the even crazier poses. I found a pic of him doing his signature flying elbow drop. That was a challenge! Trying to capture the energy and movement was tough. I ended up using a lot of dynamic lines to show the motion. It still looks a little stiff, but I think I got the essence of the Macho Man in there.
Andre the Giant was last. That dude was HUGE! It was tricky trying to capture his size and bulk without just making him look like a blob. I focused on the details in his face – the deep lines, the kind eyes (believe it or not, he seemed like a gentle giant). I shaded him pretty heavily to give him some weight.

After I finished all three, I went back and added some more details – shading, cross-hatching, stuff like that. I also outlined them with a thicker pen to make them pop a bit more. They are far from perfect, but I had a blast drawing them. It was a fun little trip down memory lane.
Now, am I gonna be selling these at a comic con anytime soon? Probably not. But it was a good way to spend an afternoon and get my creative juices flowing. Plus, who doesn’t love those 80s wrestlers? They were the best! Maybe I’ll try drawing some more tomorrow. Got any suggestions? Let me know!
