Getting Down to Biarritz
Alright, so I decided I needed to get away from Paris for a bit. The coast was calling, specifically Biarritz. Driving is a long haul, the train is decent but still takes time, so flying felt like the smart move for a shorter trip.
First step, finding a flight. I usually check out options from Orly airport, it’s just less hassle for me to get to than Charles de Gaulle. Scrolled through some options online, found a decent flight, I think it was with EasyJet or maybe Air France, can’t recall exactly which budget one I grabbed. Booked it right there on their site. Simple process, put in my details, paid up, got the confirmation email. Done.
Heading to the Airport and Flying Out
On the day, I made my way to Orly. Took the usual route, Metro then the Orlyval shuttle train thing. It gets you there, does the job. Since I wasn’t checking a big bag, just had my carry-on, I’d already checked in online the night before. Saved some time at the airport, which is always good.
Security was… well, airport security. You know the drill. Belts off, liquids out, laptops out. It moved along okay, wasn’t too chaotic that morning. Found my gate after that, had a bit of time to kill so I just sat and watched the planes.
Boarding started pretty much on schedule. Lined up, showed my pass on my phone, walked onto the plane. Found my seat, stuffed my bag overhead. The flight itself is really short, barely much more than an hour once you’re up in the air.
- Takeoff was smooth.
- Not much service on these short flights, maybe a quick drink offering but that’s about it.
- Watched the clouds go by.
- Before you know it, you feel the plane starting to descend.
Arrival in Biarritz
Landing was easy. Biarritz airport is pretty small, which is nice. No long walks down endless corridors. We parked, they rolled the stairs up, and we walked down onto the tarmac and into the terminal building. Felt the warmer air straight away.
Since I only had the carry-on, I skipped baggage claim entirely. Just walked straight out of the arrivals area. Super quick.
From there, needed to get into town. There are buses right outside the terminal, clearly marked. Hopped on the one going towards the centre, paid the driver a few euros, and found a seat. About 15-20 minutes later, I was right in the heart of Biarritz.
So yeah, flying from Paris down there was really straightforward. Quick, efficient, no real dramas. Definitely the way to go if you don’t fancy the long train ride or drive.
