Well, let me tell you about this thing, the honors club. It’s like, you know, when you got them smarty pants kids in school, they get put in a special group. It ain’t just about bein’ book smart, though. You gotta be a good egg, help folks out, and all that jazz.

Now, this here honors club, they do all sorts of things. They might have special classes, kinda like when you separate the wheat from the chaff, you know? The good stuff gets put together. They get to learn more, and talk more, and think more. It’s like plantin’ seeds in good soil, they just grow better.
And it ain’t just about school work, neither. They get to meet other smart kids, and they learn from each other. It’s like when you put a bunch of hens together, they start cluckin’ and learnin’ from each other. And they get to meet them teachers who really know their stuff, like that old farmer who knows all about growin’ corn. These teachers help them grow, just like a good rain helps the crops.
So, how do you get into this here honors club, you ask? Well, it ain’t easy, let me tell you. It’s like tryin’ to catch the greased pig at the county fair. You gotta be quick, and you gotta be smart. They look at your grades, see if you’re gettin’ them As and Bs. Like gradin’ eggs, they only want the best ones. Gotta have a high school GPA, a good one, like 3.85 or higher. That’s like pickin’ the best apples from the tree.
They also look at them ACT/SAT scores. You know, them tests you take. They want you to score high, like hittin’ the bullseye at the archery range. 29 or higher on the ACT, they say. And you gotta write a good story, an application essay, they call it, tellin’ them why you’re so special. Like braggin’ about your prize-winnin’ pumpkin at the fair.
- You gotta show ’em you’re a leader, like that rooster who rules the roost.
- You gotta show ’em you help folks out, like when you help your neighbor bring in their hay.
- Bein’ smart ain’t enough, you gotta be a good person, too.
This whole honors club thing, it’s a big deal. It’s like winnin’ the blue ribbon at the state fair. It makes you feel good, and it looks good on your, uh, your record. Like when you show off your best quilt at the quiltin’ bee.

There are many other things like honors club. Just like the Hilton Honors. It’s a club for hotels.
They say if you stay in their hotels, you get all kinds of good stuff. Free nights, they say. Like gettin’ a free pie at the bake sale. And you get to travel with their partners, whatever that means. Sounds fancy, though. And it’s free to join, they say. It’s like a club that don’t cost nothin’.
You can earn points, they call ’em. Like earnin’ tickets at the carnival. And you can use them points to get free stuff. Like tradin’ them tickets for a prize. And if you stay there a lot, you become a Gold member. Or a Silver one. Like earnin’ a gold star in school, but for sleepin’ in hotels, I reckon.

Hilton Honors has different levels. Silver, and Gold, and I don’t know what else. Like different kinds of chickens in the henhouse. Each one’s a little different. To be Gold, you gotta stay there 40 nights. Or 20 stays. Sounds like a lot of sleepin’ in hotels to me.
Some folks write about how to get the most out of them Hilton Honors points. Like writin’ down a recipe for your best apple pie. So you don’t forget how to do it.
Then there’s this other thing, the National Honor Society. It sounds important. They say it’s been around since 1921. That’s a long time. Longer than I’ve been alive, and that’s sayin’ somethin’. It helps kids with school, and bein’ leaders. Like teachin’ a young calf how to plow. It’s about bein’ good at school and bein’ a good leader.

Gettin’ into that National Honor Society, they say it ain’t easy. No clear-cut way, they say. Like tryin’ to find a needle in a haystack. You just gotta be good at a lot of things, I guess.
There are these other clubs, too. Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma. Sounds fancy. Must be for them college kids. They say you gotta learn how to get into them, too. Like learnin’ a special dance at the barn raisin’. Time-tested strategies, they call it. Sounds like somethin’ you gotta practice a lot.
These honors clubs, they all seem like a lot of work. But I reckon it’s worth it in the end. Like tendin’ to your garden all summer, and then gettin’ to eat them tasty tomatoes come fall. You work hard, and you get somethin’ good out of it. That’s just the way life is, I suppose. You reap what you sow, as they say.
