Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “McGregor toe” thing pop up all over my social media feeds. It looked kinda weird, but intriguing, so I figured, why not give it a shot? I mean, I’m always up for trying new exercises, especially if they promise to boost my foot strength and flexibility.

First, I watched a couple of videos to get a basic idea of what the exercise actually is. It seemed simple enough: basically, you’re trying to isolate and lift your big toe while keeping the other four toes planted on the ground. Sounds easy, right? Wrong!
My First Attempts (and Failures)
I sat down on the floor, placed my feet flat, and tried to lift just my big toe. Nope. Nothing. My other toes kept wanting to come along for the ride. It was like my brain couldn’t send the signal to just that one toe. I tried again, and again, and again. Still nothing. I could feel a tiny bit of movement, but it was more of a twitch than a lift.
I decided to change my tactics. I tried holding down my other four toes with my hand, hoping to force my big toe to work on its own. This helped a little, but it felt like cheating. I wanted to be able to do it without any assistance.
Getting a Little Better
I kept practicing throughout the day, whenever I had a spare moment. While watching TV, while waiting for water to boil, even while sitting at my desk. I started to notice a slight improvement. My big toe was actually starting to lift, even if it was just a millimeter or two. Progress!
- First day: Total failure. Could barely move my big toe independently.
- Second Daysmall movement
- Third Day:hold for a few seconds!
Finally some success!
After a few days of persistent practice, I finally managed to lift my big toe a decent amount, while keeping the others firmly planted. It wasn’t pretty, and it still felt awkward, but it was a definite improvement. I could actually feel the muscles in my foot working, which was a strange but satisfying sensation.
I’m still a long way from mastering the McGregor toe, but I’m determined to keep at it. It’s a challenging exercise, but it’s also kind of fun, and I can see how it could be beneficial for my overall foot * knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to do it as effortlessly as McGregor himself!
