Okay, so I’ve been meaning to check out Sweetwater Dam for a while now. I’ve heard it’s a pretty cool spot, good for a little hike and some nice views. So, this past weekend, I finally made it happen.

Getting Started
First things first, I did a quick search to find out where exactly it was and the best way to get there. I’m not the best with directions, so I made sure to load up the map on my phone before I left the house. The drive wasn’t bad at all, mostly highway, and then a bit on some smaller roads. It was kinda scenic, actually.
Hitting the Trail (Sort Of)
When I got there, I found a place to park – it wasn’t a huge lot, but it was big enough. I grabbed my water bottle and started looking for the actual “trailhead”. Now, I’m no expert hiker, so I wasn’t looking for anything too intense. Turns out, there are a few different paths you can take.
I kinda just picked one that looked like it went in the direction of the dam. It was pretty easy going at first, mostly flat, and the path was well-worn, so I didn’t feel like I was going to get lost.
The Dam View
After walking for, I don’t know, maybe 20 minutes, I started to get a really good view of the dam. It’s pretty massive! I stopped there for a bit, just taking it all in. There were a few other people around, some taking pictures, some just chilling.
- It’s Big.
- It’s impressive to look.
- Nice place to visit.
Exploring a Bit More
I decided to keep going a little further, following the path as it curved around. I didn’t go all the way around the reservoir – that looked like it would take a lot longer than I had time for. But I did find a nice spot by the water to sit down and relax for a few minutes.

Heading Back
After I felt like I’d seen enough, I just turned around and headed back the way I came. The walk back was just as easy, and I was back at my car in no time.
Overall, it was a great little trip. Not too strenuous, but definitely worth it for the views. If you’re looking for an easy, enjoyable outdoor activity, I’d say give Sweetwater Dam a try.
