Suzuki GSR 500 Review: Is It the Right Bike for You?

Alright, let’s talk about this… uh… Suzuki thingy, the GSR 500. Heard folks talkin’ ’bout it, so I figured I’d chime in with what I know, or what I’ve heard, anyways.

What’s this Suzuki GSR 500 all about, then?

Well, from what I gather, this Suzuki GSR 500 ain’t no fancy-pants racing machine. It’s more like a good, dependable… thing… you ride around on. They say it’s got a 487cc motor, whatever that means. Sounds like a whole lotta noise to me. But they say that noise gives you about 45 horses. Horses in an engine? Don’t make no sense, but that’s what them city folk say. And torque? 29 of them foot-pounds, they call it. Makes it sound strong, I guess.

Is it any good for a beginner?

Now, that’s somethin’ I hear a lot. Folks sayin’ this Suzuki thing is good for someone just startin’ out. Like, if you ain’t never ridden one of these noisy contraptions before, this might be the one for ya. Why? Well, they say it ain’t too powerful to scare ya, but it’s got enough oomph to get ya goin’. More than them little 250 or 300 thingamajigs, but not so much you’ll go flyin’ off into a ditch. And seems like you can find ’em used, too, for not too much money. Heard tell of folks gettin’ ’em for $1500 to $3000. That ain’t chicken feed, but it ain’t a king’s ransom neither.

What do folks who own ’em say?

Well, I ain’t got one myself, mind you. But I hear some folks are real happy with ’em. One fella said he had the “naked” version, a 95′ GS500e he called it. Said he loved it, was fixin’ it up to look all tough and mean. Others say it’s a “bulletproof” bike, meaning it lasts a good long while I reckon. And the reviews? Well, them city folks give it good stars, 4.6 out of 5 they say. Seems like a lot of folks like it.

  • Good lookin’ machine, they say
  • Affordable, especially if you buy it used
  • Plenty of power for new riders
  • Easy to find on the used market
  • Dependable and long-lasting

What about power and speed?

Like I said, 45 horses and 29 of them foot-pounds. That’s enough to get you movin’ pretty good, I reckon. They say it’s got more torque than them smaller bikes, so it’ll probably pull ya up a hill real nice. And speed? Well, they don’t talk about goin’ a hundred miles an hour or nothin’. But for gettin’ around town, or even takin’ a little trip, seems like it’s got enough go.

So, is the Suzuki GSR 500 a good bike?

Well, from what I hear, it ain’t a bad choice at all. Especially if you’re just startin’ out, or if you want somethin’ that’s reliable and won’t break the bank. It ain’t gonna win ya no races, but it’ll get ya where you need to go, and it sounds like it’ll last ya a good long while doin’ it. And that, to my way of thinkin’, is what really matters.

Where can you find more info?

Now, I ain’t no computer whiz, but I hear you can find a whole heap of information on them internet machines. Just type in somethin’ like “Suzuki GSR500 reviews” or “used GS500 for sale” and you’ll be swimmin’ in information, they say. You can read what other folks have to say, see how much they’re sellin’ for, and all that jazz. Just be careful, now. Don’t believe everything you read on that internet. Some folks, they just like to talk.

Should you buy one?

Well, that’s up to you, ain’t it? But if you’re lookin’ for a decent, reliable bike that won’t cost ya an arm and a leg, this Suzuki GSR 500 might just be the ticket. Just remember to do your homework, talk to some folks who know about these things, and take it for a spin if you can before you hand over your hard-earned cash. And most importantly, be safe out there on them roads. Them cars and trucks, they don’t always see ya.
