Okay, folks, so I had this little project the other day. I needed to figure out exactly how many cups are in a 1.75-liter bottle. Don’t ask why, it’s a long story involving a very complicated recipe and a distinct lack of measuring tools.

My Little Experiment
First, I grabbed an empty 1.75-liter bottle – your standard soda bottle size. I wasn’t sure about this at all, so I needed to start from something solid.
Then, I found my trusty one-cup measuring cup. It’s seen better days, all scratched up, but it gets the job done.
I filled the measuring cup with water from the tap, and I carefully poured it into the big bottle.
- One cup…
- Two cups…
- Three cups…
I kept going, marking a little tally on a sticky note each time I emptied the cup. It was a bit tedious, honestly, but I was determined to get to the bottom of this.
After what felt like forever (and a few near-spills), I finally filled the 1.75-liter bottle to the very top.
I counted up my tally marks. Seven full cups, and then a bit of room for some more. I filled a last cup. and use it little by little to see the total. Turns out, I could fit about another almost half of my cup into that bottle. It’s about 0.4 of my measuring cup.
So, there you have it! It’s around 7.4 cups, give or take, depending on how you are filling the bottle. It wasn’t a perfect science, because of my rough estimate on that last bit of water. The important thing is I found the way to do it.
