So, I kept hearing folks talkin’ ’bout this 2023 CRF250F. Sounded pretty neat, you know? They were all saying how easy it is to get going, with that electric start. No kicking like the old days, just push a button and bam, you’re ready to roll. And yeah, the word on the street was that it’s a real fun bike, got enough oomph for a 250 to keep things interesting.

I gotta admit, I thought about it. Like, really thought. “Maybe I should get one,” I said to myself. Picture it: weekends out on some trails, gettin’ a bit muddy, having a laugh. It sounded like a solid plan, a good way to blow off some steam.
Then Reality Kicked In
But then, man, it started stirring up some old memories. My last adventure with a dirt bike, you see. It wasn’t even about the bike itself, that thing was decent enough. It was all the stuff around it. My big idea back then was to become some weekend trail hero. I went out and found a used bike, nothing fancy like a brand new Honda, just something to get my feet wet, or so I thought.
Boy, was I wrong. It turned into a whole thing.
- First off, just finding a spot to actually ride the darn thing. That was a mission in itself. Everywhere I looked, it was either “Keep Out” signs or places wanting a chunk of change just to let you spin your wheels for a bit.
- Then came the gear. Helmet, boots, goggles, pads… it all started adding up. My wallet felt lighter pretty quick.
- And the upkeep! I’m no grease monkey, that’s for sure. Seemed like I spent more time with a wrench in my hand, cussing at some stubborn bolt, than actually enjoying the ride. Little things always needing a tweak.
My buddies who were already into it, they made it all look so effortless. Just show up, ride, have fun. For me, it felt like a constant stream of little frustrations. That bike spent more time parked in the corner of the garage, gathering dust, than it ever did on a trail. I eventually sold it, just to get rid of the headache.
So, when I hear all the buzz about the CRF250F, and how it’s “just right” and all that, I can’t help but have a little chuckle. The bike itself, I’m sure it’s great. Honda usually knows what they’re doing. But it’s the whole package, the lifestyle commitment, that gets me. It’s not just buying a motorcycle; it’s buying into a whole new set of chores and expenses if you’re not prepared, or if you’re a bit like me and prefer things simpler.

It’s funny, ’cause after that whole dirt bike episode, I ended up getting into fixing up old bicycles. Yeah, pedal power. Found an old cruiser, stripped it down, painted it, put it all back together. Way less drama, you know? Cheaper too. And I can tinker with it right in my driveway without the neighbors complaining about the noise. Turns out, that was more my speed.
So, that 2023 CRF250F? Looks like a sweet machine, no doubt. Probably a ton of fun if you’re really into that scene. But for me, I think I’ll stick to two wheels that don’t come with an engine for now. My garage feels less cluttered, and my stress levels are definitely lower. Sometimes the idea of something is a lot more appealing than the day-to-day reality, especially when you’ve been down a similar road before.
