Okay so this shiny Nihilego thing kept wrecking my team. Like, bad. That fancy rock poison jellyfish looking monster? Total headache. Felt like banging my head against the wall every raid. But nah, I ain’t quitting. Time to figure this out step by step.

Phase 1: Getting Smacked Around (A Lot)
First tries were pure garbage. I just went in with my usual big hitters. Think big steel types like Metagross, or even tried using Excadrill. Terrible idea. Shiny Nihilego hits different. Its poison moves? Melted my steels. Acid Spray? Felt like it ripped my defense clean off. Psychic attacks? Forget about it. Saw “Wipe Out” way more times than I care to admit. Pure chaos.
Phase 2: Actually Paying Attention (Who Knew?)
Realized I needed to actually look at what this shiny jellyfish does. Wrote down its nasty habits:
- Painful Sludge Bomb: That poison hurts, especially anything weak to it.
- Acid Spray: This is the killer. Shoots out poison and SMASHES your special defense. Suddenly you feel like paper.
- Power Gem: Its main rock attack. Stings.
- Psychic: Not its hardest hitter, but catches folks off guard.
Biggest problem? Acid Spray. One shot and you’re basically naked. Makes whatever comes next hit like a truck.
Phase 3: Shopping for Bodyguards
Time to find some counters that can actually take the hits. What survives poison well? Resists rock? Ground type! Okay, good start. Ground types hit back super effective too. Needed ones that are tough, especially on the special defense side.
- Garchomp: Fast and hits hard with Earthquake or Earth Power. But… kinda squishy against special attacks. Still solid damage.
- Excadrill: Great attack stat. But steel/ground? Hello poison weakness. Got wrecked by Sludge Bomb hard. Scratched that one.
- Gastrodon (East Sea): Ding ding ding! Water/Ground type? Poisons ain’t touching it much. Rock attacks? Only neutral damage. Acid Spray still sucks, but it sticks around longer. Plus, it learns Earth Power. Solid pick.
- Steelix (Mega): This was the anchor. Mega Steelix? Rock solid defense. Poison moves? Barely tickle. Steel/ground typing laughs at Power Gem too. Acid Spray stings, sure, but it takes a serious beating before going down. Real slow, though. But mine knew Earthquake – perfect for smackin’ that weird jellyfish.
Phase 4: Putting the Plan to Work
Got my main squad: Mega Steelix + Gastrodon. Went back into the raid. Strategy time!
Turn one? Mega evolve Steelix instantly. Get that massive defense boost ASAP. Gastrodon starts spamming Earth Power. Shiny Nihilego fires off Acid Spray? Hits Steelix. Yeah, my special defense took a hit, but that physical bulk barely noticed the Power Gems coming back. Steelix just kept hammering with Earthquake.
That Acid Spray weakening me? Key was timing. Right after it used Acid Spray, I’d swap Steelix out for Gastrodon. Took the next hit way better with that immunity. Did a little dance swapping them out, tanking the worst hits. Kept the pressure on with Earth Power from Gastrodon when Steelix needed a breather.
The timer kept ticking down… felt tense. But they barely stayed alive! Shiny Nihilego went down with like 5 seconds left. Sweet, sweet victory!
Phase 5: Locking it Down (Almost)
Tried it a bunch more times. Works like a charm. Mega Steelix is legit the wall. Gastrodon provides awesome backup and chip damage. Sometimes used Garchomp for raw speed and damage output instead of Gastrodon if I felt confident.

The big do not forget? Respect the Acid Spray. If it nails your main tank with it? Get outta there! Switch immediately. That debuff is brutal. Letting your tank eat multiple hits after an Acid Spray? You’re asking for a wipeout.
So yeah, that’s what worked for me after eating dirt so many times. Mega Steelix + Ground Squad FTW. Go smack that shiny jellyfish!
