Okay, so, I wanted to try out this Shaun Livingston midrange thing. I’d seen some stuff online about how he’s like, a god of the midrange or something, and I wanted to see if I could do it, too. I mean, it’s just a midrange shot, right? How hard could it be?

First, I went out to my local court. It was a pretty nice day, not too hot, not too cold. I started by just shooting around a bit, getting a feel for the ball, you know? Then I started focusing on the midrange area. I tried to mimic what I saw in some of those Shaun Livingston highlights videos I watched. The way he moves, kinda lanky but smooth, and how he releases the ball.
Man, it was way tougher than I thought. It wasn’t just about throwing the ball up there. It was about the footwork, the balance, and that weird kinda fadeaway thing he does. I must’ve taken like, a hundred shots. My arms were getting tired, my legs were sore, and I was starting to get frustrated.
- I realized I had to use my legs more. I was just using my arms, and that wasn’t cutting it. Someone online mentioned that his power comes from his wrist, allowing him to shoot from a higher position.
- Then there was the whole height thing. He’s way taller than most guys playing his position, so that gives him an advantage. I’m not exactly short, but I’m no Shaun Livingston.
- I started jumping a little higher, trying to get that extra elevation. It helped a bit, but it also threw off my balance.
I kept at it though. I mean, if this dude really went 1309/1309 on midrange attempts, I figured I could at least make a few. I watched more videos, paid attention to his form, and tried to copy it as best as I could. I spent hours on the court, just practicing that one shot. I was trying to get that feeling, that muscle memory, you know?
Eventually, I started to get a little better. I wasn’t making every shot, not even close, but I was definitely improving. I could feel the difference in my form, in my release. It was starting to feel more natural, more fluid, even if I wasn’t sinking them all the time. One comment I read online that he kept his shot until the top of his jump, so I tried that, too.
So, yeah, that’s my Shaun Livingston midrange experiment. It’s a work in progress, for sure. But I’m not giving up. I’m gonna keep practicing, keep grinding, and maybe one day I’ll be able to hit those midrange shots like it’s nothing. Maybe I won’t be 1309/1309, but I can sure as hell try to get close! And hey, even if I don’t, it’s still a pretty good workout, right?
It’s a lot harder than it looks!
If you decide to try, let me know! Maybe we can figure it out together. I’m telling you, it’s a challenge.
