Man, today was a big day—Selection Sunday! I woke up early, made some coffee, and got comfy on the couch, ready to see how the NCAA tournament brackets would shape up. It’s always a bit of a nail-biter, you know? You’ve got your favorite teams, and you’re hoping they not only make it in but also get a decent seed.

First off, I scanned the news to see who had already locked in their spots. Turns out, New Mexico snagged a spot by winning the Mountain West title. That’s huge for them! They ended up with a No. 11 seed. Then there’s Boise State, Colorado State, and Nevada, all grabbing No. 10 seeds. It looked like the Mountain and Pacific Time Zones were having a pretty good day.
As the day went on, the full list of 68 teams started to come out. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting to see who made the cut. There was a lot of talk about “bid stealers” shaking things up, and man, did they ever! The committee decided to give Virginia and Colorado a shot, which was cool, but it was rough for the Big East.
- Seton Hall
- St. John’s
- Providence
These three teams all missed out, which was a shocker. They had 20 wins each! Even the UConn coach, Dan Hurley, was scratching his head over it. Feels like a bit of a raw deal for them.
Underdog Stories
I always love checking out the underdog matchups. Historically speaking, No. 14 seeds often upset the No. 3 seeds. It’s happened in 20 of the last 39 years! But only two No. 14 seeds, Cleveland State in ’86 and Chattanooga in ’97, made it past the second round. It’s a long shot, but hey, that’s the magic of March Madness, right?
Heartbreak for Indiana State
One of the saddest stories of the day was Indiana State. They had a killer season, 28-6, and a No. 29 NET ranking, but they still didn’t make the tournament. That’s gotta sting. It’s the highest NET ranking to ever get left out. I really felt for those guys.

Overall, Selection Sunday was a rollercoaster of emotions. Some teams celebrated, while others were left heartbroken. That’s just how it goes, I guess. Now that the brackets are set, I’m pumped to see how it all plays out. Let the madness begin!
