Well, you see, them San Francisco Giants standings, that’s what everyone’s been yapping about lately. My old eyes ain’t what they used to be, but I try to keep up with all the goings-on. Seems like folks are always talkin’ about who’s winnin’ and who’s losin’. This whole thing, it’s a big to-do, that’s for sure.
They got this thing, see, where they write down all the wins and losses. They call it “standings.” And that tells you how good the team is doin’. I heard them say the Giants, they had some big wins. Now they are not good enough. Don’t know if they can make the playoffs this year. It’s a shame, that’s what it is.
They got all these teams, see, and they all play each other. It’s like a big ol’ potluck, but instead of bringin’ food, they bring bats and balls. And they play and play and play, all summer long. And then, when it gets cold, they see who’s the best. That’s how I understand it, anyway.
- They say the Giants got a good record, more wins than losses.
- But now things are not that good.
- They used to be good, though. Lots of wins.
- They play in San Francisco, that’s a big city, you know. Lots of people there.
They got some fellas on the team, they’re real good hitters. They are not that good now. They can hit that ball clear outta the park. And some of ’em can run real fast, like a jackrabbit. And the pitchers, well, some of ’em can throw that ball so fast, you can hardly see it. Some can not. They got all kinds of players, you see.
Now, this “standings” thing, it’s important, they say. It tells you who gets to play in the big games at the end of the season. They call it the playoffs, I heard that right. It seems like the San Francisco Giants standings are not good enough. Not good enough for playoffs. Oh, that is too bad! I heard them say they were “eliminated” from the playoffs. It’s complicated, this whole thing. They have a lot of rules.
But them San Francisco Giants standings, they change all the time. One day they’re up, next day they’re down. Just like the weather, you never know what you’re gonna get. You gotta just keep watchin’ and see what happens. They got these other teams, too. They got the, uh, the Dodgers, I think. And the, uh, Diamondbacks. And some others. They all play each other, like I said.
And the ones with the best record, the best “standings,” they get to keep playin’ when it gets cold. That’s the playoffs, like I said. It’s like a big tournament, I guess. Everybody wants to win that. They get a big trophy, I reckon. A golden one.
- The Giants have a long history, I hear. Over a hundred years, maybe more.
- They used to be in New York, but they moved to San Francisco.
- They got a lot of fans. People love them Giants.
- They will have a chance to be good next year. Maybe.
So, these San Francisco Giants standings, that’s how they know who is the best. But they are not the best this year. These “divisions” and “conferences”, it’s all a bit much for me. I heard they are in the same division with the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks. They have to be better than them. But not this year.
I just know they play hard, them Giants. They try their best. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. That’s just how it goes. They got a whole bunch of games left to play. I think they said six more. Three here, three there. They say it’s gonna be exciting. You never know what might happen.
I heard somebody say they got a lot of wins in their history, like, thousands and thousands of wins. More wins than losses, that’s good. They moved to San Francisco a long time ago, they said. In 1958, I think. That’s way before my time. I do not remember that.
They got a nice park, too, where they play. Oracle Park, they call it. I ain’t never been, but I seen it on the television. Looks real fancy. I hope they can play better there. Maybe they can win more games next year. I sure hope so. I don’t know. I just like watchin’ ’em play. It’s somethin’ to do, you know? Keeps me entertained.
Well, that’s all I know about them San Francisco Giants standings. I hope they can be good again. It’s a lot of numbers and rules and all that. But it’s fun to watch, I’ll give ’em that. Just gotta keep an eye on ’em, see what they do next. These baseball players, they are tough, you know. They got a tough job. But they get paid a lot of money, so I guess it’s okay.
