So, I decided to go to the Reds opening day game this year. I’ve been a fan for a while, but I’ve never actually made it to an opener before. Figured it was about time, you know?

First things first, I had to get my hands on some tickets. I checked out the Reds’ website, and it turns out they had this thing where you could register for a chance to buy tickets. Had to do it before February 17th. I thought, “Why not?” and signed myself up. They said I could get up to four tickets if my name was selected. Fingers crossed!
While waiting to hear back about the ticket lottery, I did some more digging. I found that there are tickets on some other websites, starting at around 55 bucks. Not too bad, but I was still hoping to get lucky with the official sale.
I also found out that the game is against the Pirates and starts at 4:10 p.m. at the Great American Ball Park. Got that marked on my calendar!
Then, I saw this other deal where if you buy 10 tickets, you get the 11th free. That would be great for some folks, but I wasn’t planning to go with a big crowd like that. Also, I did find some tickets from other websites, but they were a bit more pricey, so I thought I’d rather wait and see if I get picked in the lottery.
I waited, and waited, and finally got the email! I was selected! I quickly went online and snagged two tickets – one for me and one for my buddy. We were stoked!

Game day rolled around, and the atmosphere at the ballpark was electric. Everyone was decked out in red, ready to cheer on the team. We found our seats, grabbed some snacks, and settled in for a great game.
It was an awesome experience, finally getting to be there for opening day. The energy of the crowd, the excitement of the game – it all made for a day I won’t forget. I’m already thinking about going again next year! Maybe I’ll try to get a bigger group together and take advantage of that 11th ticket deal.
- Registered for the ticket lottery on the Reds’ website.
- Checked out ticket prices on other websites.
- Got selected in the lottery and bought two tickets.
- Attended the game and had a blast!
A good start to the season, hopefully. Go Reds!
This year I am going to make more memories like this, it was so much fun and I hope next time I can bring my family with me to enjoy the experience together.
