Pokey Reese Baseball

He was born a long time ago, in 1973. They called him “Pokey” cause he was a chubby little fella. But boy, could that boy play! He was a baseball player, a good one too. He played in the Major League, that’s the big time! He was an infielder, running around them bases like a chicken with its head cut off.

They say he was good at defense. What’s that mean? It means he could catch that ball real good, I reckon. Fast like a rabbit, that’s what they said. He was from Columbia, wherever that is. He played for those teams, the Reds and the Pirates, and ended up with the Red Sox.

Pokey and the Red Sox

He played with them Red Sox in 2004, and they won that big game, the World Series. They beat the St. Louis Cardinals, whoever they are. Must have been a big deal, winning that thing. People sure made a fuss about it. He got a gold glove, whatever that is. Sounds expensive. Probably made him a rich man, playing that baseball.

He was a shortstop, they say. Running around, catching the ball. He must have been good to win that gold glove. They say he had trouble staying on the team, though. Don’t know why. Maybe he got tired of all that running.

Pokey Reese Now

This Pokey Reese, he lives in Charlotte now, a city, I think. Big place. I don’t know what he does now. Probably sits around, watching the games on TV. He’s retired, they say. Means he don’t play no more. He’s getting on in years now, like me.

He played baseball a long time, this Pokey. From 1997 to 2004, that’s a good stretch. He was right-handed, threw the ball with his right hand. Most folks do that, I reckon. He must be proud, winning that World Series. Not everyone gets to do that.

Pokey Reese Baseball Stats

He played in the minor leagues too, before he got to the big time. Lots of folks do that. Gotta work your way up, I guess. He had them baseball stats, whatever that is. Numbers and such. They keep track of everything these days. How many times he hit the ball, how many times he ran around the bases. Sounds like a lot of work to me. But he must have been good at it. He played baseball his whole life, it seems. Started when he was young, like those kids playing in the field across the road, always tossing that ball around, making a racket.

I don’t know much about baseball, but this Pokey Reese, he sure made a name for himself. Winning that big game and all. He probably made a lot of money too, playing that game. Good for him. He earned it, I reckon. All that running around, must have been tiring. He had a good career, though, they say. Lots of folks remember him, I guess. That Pokey Reese. Yeah, I remember that name. Baseball player. Good one, too. Heard it on the TV, I think. Or maybe it was the radio. Don’t rightly recall. Old age, you know. Memory ain’t what it used to be. But he was a good one, that Pokey. A real good baseball player.
