Playing Hermann Golf Course soon? Check these easy tips for a much better score!

Okay, so lemme tell you about my little adventure at the Hermann Golf Course. I’m no pro, just a weekend warrior trying to smack that little white ball around without embarrassing myself too much.

First off, I decided to give this course a whirl after seeing some decent reviews online. Looked kinda chill, not too intimidating for a duffer like me. I booked a tee time for early Saturday morning, hoping to beat the crowds and the worst of the heat. I packed my bag – trusty driver, a few irons I kinda know how to use, and my putter (which I swear has a mind of its own).

I arrived at the course a little early, grabbed a coffee, and checked in. The staff were super friendly, which is always a good start. I hit a few balls at the driving range just to warm up. Emphasis on “warm up” because “improve” wasn’t happening. My swing felt like a rusty hinge, but hey, that’s golf for ya.

Then it was time to tee off. The first hole was a par 4, nothing too crazy. I took a deep breath, swung… and promptly sliced it into the trees. Yep, classic. I found my ball, somehow managed to hack it back onto the fairway, and eventually made a double bogey. Not the start I was hoping for, but I wasn’t about to let it ruin my day.

The course itself was pretty decent. Not Augusta National or anything, but well-maintained and had some interesting challenges. A few holes had water hazards that I definitely donated a ball or two to. The greens were in good shape, though my putting was… let’s just say inconsistent. I spent a lot of time in the sand traps, practicing my bunker shots (which still need a lot of work).

Around the back nine, the heat really started to kick in. I drank plenty of water and tried to stay in the shade whenever possible. My score wasn’t amazing, but I was having fun, which is the whole point, right? I even managed to par a couple of holes, which felt like a major victory.

Finally, I finished the 18th. I added up my score (let’s not talk about it), handed in my scorecard, and grabbed a cold beer at the clubhouse. Sitting there, nursing my drink, I reflected on the round. Sure, I could’ve played better, but I also hit some good shots, enjoyed the scenery, and got some exercise. All in all, a good day on the links.

So, would I recommend Hermann Golf Course? Yeah, definitely. It’s a solid course for golfers of all skill levels. Just don’t expect to break any records – unless your record is for most balls lost in the woods.

  • Friendly staff
  • Decent condition
  • Reasonable prices

I’ll probably head back there again soon. Gotta keep practicing that swing, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll finally conquer that tricky par 3 on the back nine.
