Okay, so I recently got to play the Kingsmill Resort’s River Course in Virginia, and I just had to share my experience. It was something I’d been planning for a while, so the anticipation was definitely building!

Getting Started
First things first, I did some digging online to check out the course details and, of course, book a tee time. Gotta make sure you snag a spot, especially during peak season. The booking process was pretty straightforward, just a few clicks and I was all set.
Then came the slightly tougher part – figuring out what clubs to bring. I mean, it’s a pretty famous course, having hosted both PGA and LPGA events, so I wanted to be prepared. I ended up packing my usual set, plus a few extra balls… just in case. You know how it is, those water hazards can be sneaky!
Hitting the Course
When I finally got there, wow! The place is beautiful. Seriously, the views of the James River are amazing. It really sets the stage for a great round of golf. I warmed up at the driving range – gotta loosen up those muscles, you know? – and then headed to the first tee.
The first few holes were interesting. I was trying to get a feel for the greens, the speed, the breaks… It definitely took a bit of adjusting. I may or may not have had a couple of three-putts early on. (Don’t judge!).
The course itself is challenging, but fair. There are some tricky doglegs, strategically placed bunkers, and, of course, the river comes into play on several holes. Keeps you on your toes! My favorite hole was definitely number 17, a par 3 right along the river.

Just an incredible view, even if I did bogey it…sigh.
Wrapping Up
After the round, I grabbed a bite to eat at one of the resort’s restaurants.
Reflecting about this course, it was a really memorable experience. The course was in fantastic condition, the scenery was top-notch, and the challenge was just right.
If you ever get a chance to play Kingsmill, do it! Just, maybe bring a few extra balls… and maybe practice your putting beforehand. 😉
