Alright, so I wanted to share a bit about a day I spent out at Dunegrass Golf Club, over by Old Orchard Beach. It’s been on my list for a while, and I finally got a chance to actually get out there and see what it was all about.

Getting Started and First Impressions
So, I got up one morning, weather looked decent enough, and decided today was the day. Packed up my clubs, you know, the usual routine. The drive over wasn’t too bad, found the place pretty easily. Pulling in, the entrance was okay, nothing too flashy, just looked like a regular golf club, which is fine by me.
Headed into the clubhouse, or pro shop, whatever you want to call it. It was a bit on the smaller side, but seemed to have all the essentials. The fella behind the counter was friendly enough, got me checked in without any fuss. I asked about a cart, and that was sorted quick too. Didn’t spend much time poking around, just wanted to get out on the course.
Out on the Links
So, I got my cart, loaded up my bag, and made my way to the first tee. There’s always that little bit of excitement, or maybe nerves, hitting that first ball of the day. Mine wasn’t exactly a beauty, a bit of a slice, but it stayed in play, so I couldn’t complain too much. That’s how it goes sometimes, right?
Working my way through the front nine, the course started to show its character. Some holes were pretty open, let you really swing away. Others, you had to be a bit more careful. The “dunegrass” part of the name is no joke. There’s plenty of that tall, wispy stuff just waiting to swallow your ball if you’re not straight. I definitely made a couple of donations to the dunegrass, that’s for sure.
The conditions were pretty good, I thought. Greens rolled decently, not too fast, not too slow. Fairways were in good shape. You could tell they put some work into keeping it up. There were a few spots here and there that were a little rough around the edges, but nothing that really spoiled the game.

- Some tricky par 3s where you really had to pick your club right.
- A couple of longer par 5s that made you think about your second shot.
- The sand traps were, well, sandy. Got out of a couple, stayed in one longer than I wanted.
I remember one hole, can’t recall the number, but it had a nice view. You could sort of feel the ocean breeze coming in, which was nice, especially as the day warmed up. It wasn’t right on the water, but you got that coastal feel.
Winding Down the Day
Finished up my 18, feeling pretty decent about the round. Shot about my usual, a few good shots, a few I’d rather forget. That’s golf, isn’t it? Headed back to the clubhouse area. I wasn’t starving, but figured I’d grab a quick drink. The atmosphere inside was relaxed, just a few other golfers around, chatting about their rounds.
Didn’t stick around too long after that. Just packed up my gear, loaded it back in the car, and headed off. It was a solid day of golf, no major complaints. It wasn’t trying to be one of those super high-end, exclusive clubs, and that was perfectly fine. Just a good, honest golf course.
Final Thoughts
So, yeah, that was my day at Dunegrass Golf Club. If you’re looking for a place to play in that Old Orchard Beach area, it’s definitely worth considering. It’s challenging enough to keep you interested, but not so brutal that you feel beat up afterwards, unless you really fight with the dunegrass. I’d probably go back if I had the chance and was in the mood for a round out that way. Just a straightforward, enjoyable golfing experience, and sometimes that’s exactly what you’re looking for.
