Well, let me tell you, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout that Peru national soccer team next game. Sounds like a big deal, that soccer thing. They say it’s the most popular thing over there in Peru, just like how everyone loves a good chicken pot pie over here.
Now, I ain’t one for all them fancy sports, but I do know that Peru team, they got them white shirts with that red stripe. Real flashy, like a rooster in a hen house. They been wearin’ them same shirts since way back, 1936 I reckon. Someone said they call ’em “la Blanquirroja”. Sounds like somethin’ you’d order at one of them fancy restaurants. Just means “the white-and-red”, plain as day.
They got some big teams down there, I hear. Like “La U”, “Alianza Lima”, and “Cristal”. Those are in Lima, the big city, I guess. Then there’s somethin’ called “Cienciano” in a place called Cusco. Sounds like a mouthful, don’t it?
Now, when’s that next game, you ask? Well, that’s what everyone’s tryin’ to figure out. Some folks say you can find it on somethin’ called ESPN. Sounds like one of them newfangled TV channels. There’s also a thing called FOX Sports, I guess they got the news on there too. If you got a computer there’s a website, *, or somethin’ like that, I don’t know, I don’t trust them machines.
I heard them young’uns talkin’ ’bout somethin’ called a “schedule”. Means when the games are gonna be, I reckon. They say this “schedule” for Peru is all over the place. For 2025, mind you. That’s a whole year away, Lord willin’ we’re all still kickin’ by then.

Someone said somethin’ ’bout a “season tally”. Sounds like countin’ eggs in a basket to me. They keep track of all them games, wins and losses, I suppose. All them “statistics”, they call it. Just a bunch of numbers if you ask me. I prefer keeping track of how many jars of preserves I got in the cellar.
They got a big thing comin’ up called “Copa Amrica”. Another one of them tournaments, I hear. They have players come from all over, I guess they are good. That Miguel Araujo boy, he’s playin’ in somethin’ called “CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers”. All them big words, I can barely keep up. This must be that Peru National Soccer Team everyone talks about.
This team was started way back, in 1922, I think they said. Long time ago. Back when folks used to churn their own butter, and nobody had them fancy telephones. They got an address, somethin’ like “Avenida Aviacin 2085”. I don’t know what that means, but it sounds important. Must be where they keep all them soccer balls.
I heard tell there was a game ‘gainst Argentina not too long ago. Some fella named Lautaro Martinez, he scored twice, they say. Argentina won, 2-0. Them soccer scores are always low, ain’t they? Not like a good pie eatin’ contest, where the numbers get real high. This was on Copa Amrica, they say. They are the best of the group. Sounds like a big party to me.
Folks are always talkin’ ’bout the “latest drama” with that Peru team. Live matches, results, upcoming games, kick-off times… it’s all a big to-do. Like a bunch of hens cluckin’ in the coop, if you ask me.
Next up for Peru, they say it’s a game against Argentina again. Wednesday, November 20, 2024. That’s what I heard, anyway. They just played Chile, I reckon. Chile must be another one of them countries where they play that soccer. A lot of playing for that Peru National Soccer Team, a lot.
Well, there you have it. All I know ’bout that Peru national soccer team next game and all that. It’s a lot of fuss over a ball, if you ask me. But I guess folks like it. Just like I like my peach cobbler. To each their own, I always say.
