Today, I got to see something pretty cool – the Orioles’ Braille jerseys. Let me tell you, it was a bit of a process to really understand what was going on with these.
So, first off, I saw the players and coaches all wearing these unique jerseys. What caught my eye was that they had Braille lettering on them. I’d never seen that before on a baseball uniform, so naturally, I was intrigued. I started digging around to find out more.
I learned that the Orioles have done this a few times in the past. It’s a way to show support for the visually impaired community. Each player’s name and number are written in Braille on the back of the jersey. Pretty neat, right?
- I noticed something else, too. There’s a number 5 patch on their uniforms.
- After some quick research, I found out it’s a tribute to Brooks Robinson, a legendary Orioles player who recently passed away.
- They’re wearing it for the rest of their postseason to honor him.
And get this – I read about this colorful pattern on their City Connect uniforms. Turns out, it’s not just a random design. It’s supposed to represent the different neighborhoods of Baltimore. They put it on the inside of the jersey, which is apparently a first for an MLB team. The idea is that it shows the city’s vibrant inner character, contrasting with the plain gray exterior that represents how some people might see the city from the outside.
After I gathered all this information, I decided to watch the game. Seeing the jerseys in action was really something else. It made me appreciate the thought and effort that went into them. And the fact that they were doing this to support a good cause made it even better.
