Then, I stumbled upon some numbers, and boy, were they big. Apparently, last year’s race had over 432,000 people. That’s like, a whole city showing up! No wonder they need those shuttles. COTA, in the ten years it has been around, brought something like $7 billion to Austin and Texas, and created 64,000 jobs every year. I mean, that’s impressive!
I also learned that if you’re on a budget, there are cheaper races to go to, like the ones in Hungary, China, or Japan. And if you’re really pinching pennies, you can just sit on the grass with general admission tickets. Might not be the best view, but hey, you’re there, right?
Now, here’s where I had to put my thinking cap on. I thought, “If I drive, where am I gonna park?” The Expo Center sounded like the best bet, but what if it fills up? I heard that on race weekends, those rideshare cars like Ubers aren’t allowed on COTA Blvd. So, that’s out of the question.
So, I made a plan. I decided to get to the Expo Center bright and early. And guess what? It worked! I got a spot, hopped on a shuttle, and made it to the track without a hitch.

- I parked my car and waited for the shuttle.
- Finally, I got on the shuttle, which took me directly to the Grand Plaza entrance.
