That Necaxa – León Fixture…
You know, whenever I see a fixture like Necaxa playing León, it just takes me back. Not always to the game itself, mind you, but to all the stuff that happens around these things. People get all worked up, plans are made, expectations are high. Sometimes it’s great, other times… well, other times it’s a total mess, kinda like this one project I got roped into a while back.
We were trying to build this little app, nothing fancy, just something to help local fans connect, find places to watch games, you know, that sort of community vibe. And we were aiming to launch a big feature right around a major Necaxa game; I think it might have even been against León, or one of those big rivals. Seemed like perfect timing, right? Wrong. So, so wrong.
The main guy, let’s just call him ‘El Jefe’ because he sure acted like he owned the place, he was in charge of all the crucial backend stuff. Me and a couple of other folks, we were busting our tails on the front-end, the design, trying to get the word out. We poured hours into it, I’m talking late nights, fueled by stale coffee and sheer willpower. Our part was actually looking pretty decent, something we weren’t ashamed of. We were genuinely excited.
Then came the moment of truth: integration. And what do we find? ‘El Jefe’s’ contribution was, to put it mildly, a complete train wreck.
- Stuff just wouldn’t connect. At all.
- The database looked like a toddler had designed it during a tantrum. Just random fields everywhere.
- His constant refrain was, ‘It’s practically done, just a tiny bit more polishing!’ He said that for weeks on end.
That ‘tiny bit more polishing’ ballooned into a full-blown nightmare. The big launch we planned around the game? Vanished. Poof. All that energy we’d put in, all the groundwork for promotion, basically flushed down the toilet. Turns out, he’d farmed out a chunk of his responsibilities to some buddy who ‘knew a thing or two about computers,’ and the rest he just sort of… improvised. It was an absolute shambles.
We genuinely tried to pick up the pieces. We spent what felt like an eternity trying to make sense of his mess of code. But it was like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube. Impossible. In the end, the whole venture just deflated. Money ran out, enthusiasm evaporated. All because one individual either couldn’t face up to being totally out of his league or, and this is what really grinds my gears, just didn’t give a damn about doing the job properly.
So yeah, Necaxa – León. It’s funny how a simple match name can stir up old frustrations. It’s a solid reminder that you can do your part perfectly, but someone else can still muck it all up for everyone. I actually heard ‘El Jefe’ attempted a similar stunt a year or so later with a different team. I often wonder how that panned out for them. Probably still blaming ‘bad luck’ or ‘those difficult users’. Some folks just never seem to get it, do they?
