So, I was plugging away in Portia, you know, doing commissions, trying to upgrade my workshop, the usual stuff. Then bam! I hit a wall. Needed something called Hardened Clay. I looked everywhere, thought maybe I could dig it up or find it lying around like regular clay or stone. Nope. Nada.

Spent a good chunk of time just wandering, poking at rocks, digging in those spots near the river. Got plenty of regular Clay, loads of Stone, even some relics, but no Hardened Clay. Getting a bit frustrating, I tell ya.
Figuring out the Furnace Thing
Then I remembered seeing something about needing better crafting stations. Checked my handbook, looked through the assembly station diagrams again. Turns out, you don’t find Hardened Clay, you make it. And you need a specific furnace for it – the Civil Furnace. Right, another thing to build.
Getting the diagram wasn’t too bad. Had to give Petra at the Research Center some Data Discs. Took a few days, like always, waiting for her to do her thing. Finally, she handed over the blueprint for the Civil Furnace.
Building and Crafting
Okay, blueprint in hand, time to build. Checked the materials list at the Assembly Station:
- Stone Bricks
- Bronze Bars
- Marble
Luckily, I’d been stockpiling a bit. Made the Stone Bricks in my basic Stone Furnaces. Bronze Bars too, just needed Copper and Tin Ore, which I got plenty of from the Abandoned Ruins #1. The Marble took a bit more effort, had to smash those harder, lighter-colored rocks outside the town walls.

Got everything together, dragged it over to the Assembly Station, and put that Civil Furnace together piece by piece. Felt pretty good seeing it finally complete on my yard. It looked way beefier than the little Stone Furnaces.
Alright, the moment of truth. Fired up the Civil Furnace (needed wood or power stones, naturally). Then I checked what it could make. And there it was: Hardened Clay! The recipe was simple enough: just needed regular Clay and Stone. Had tons of that lying around from all my earlier searching!
Fed the materials into the furnace, made sure it had fuel, and then just had to wait. Watched the little progress bar fill up. Felt like ages, but probably wasn’t that long. Finally, pop! Out came my first batch of Hardened Clay.
It’s always like that in Portia, isn’t it? You hit a roadblock, scratch your head for a bit, then figure out you need to build something new to make the thing you need. Kinda satisfying once you get it sorted, though. Now, back to that commission…
