My Messy Journey Testing Minecraft’s New Potions
Okay so last night I booted up the game, grabbed my best pickaxe and just dug straight down like I always do. Was hunting for Netherwart honestly, not expecting anything wild. Stumbled into this massive cave system below my base, right near a lava pool – typical, right? Almost died right there.
Then I saw it. This weird, glowing block near some dripstone. Never seen it before! Mined it super carefully. Boom, Glow Ink Sacs and Glow Berries everywhere. No idea what to do with these glowing berries, but my gut said “potion time.” Ran back upstairs to my brewing stand.
Here’s what I tried, stuff flying everywhere:
- First, tossed an Awkward Potion in like usual. Grabbed a Glow Berry, chucked that in too. Stand did this big puff of pink sparkles. Weird! Drank it right after. Felt… floaty? Jumped off my roof and just barely landed safe. Turns out it’s Slow Falling! Amazing for avoiding fall damage exploring caves. Lifesaver.
- Next experiment: Heard whispers about turtles. Found one on the beach, followed it for ages (felt silly), and finally grabbed some scutes when it grew up. Mixed that scute with the Awkward Potion. Got this thick, murky green stuff. Chugged it. Instantly felt SO SLOW and tough like a rock. Armor icons popped up huge! Turtle Master potion. Makes you crazy resistant but move like you’re in mud. Perfect if you’re cornered and need to tank hits.
Almost gave up then. Brewing stand looked messy, ingredients scattered. But remembered the Glow Ink Sacs from earlier. Shrugged, threw one into a water bottle. Figured… why not? Got this glowing, ink-black potion. No idea! Threw a Redstone dust in to make it last longer. Dabbed some on my sword later when a creeper surprised me. Hit it, and BAM! It started glowing bright! Lasted ages. The Glow potion marks mobs so you can see them in the dark or through walls. Super useful for tracking things down in caves.
Survival Mode Tips I Almost Died Figuring Out:
- Glow Berries FIRST for Slow Falling. Saved my bacon jumping into ravines blindly.
- Turtle Scutes take patience but make you a mini-tank. Just brew them BEFORE a raid starts – don’t get caught mid-fight trying to drink it.
- Glow Ink + Water + Redstone = Mobs that can’t hide. Splash it on something THEN fight it. Makes Endermen and skeletons running behind pillars easy to spot.
- Bring lots of Glass Bottles! Seriously. Ran out halfway through and had to scramble finding sand. Not fun.
Honestly? Messy process, lots of deaths reloading saves, but man these new potions are game-changers for staying alive. My potion chest looks chaotic now, but worth it.
