The Starting Point: Pure Frustration
My Joshua Card setup was straight up not doing what I needed. Tasks would disappear, reminders wouldn’t go off, and searching for anything was a nightmare. It felt like wrestling an octopus. I knew I had to fix it or scrap it entirely.
Trying to Tame the Beast
First, I tried just adding more tags randomly. “Important”, “Urgent”, you name it, I slapped it on stuff. Surprise surprise – that just made the tag list look like alphabet soup and finding anything got worse, not better. Total waste of time.
Next, I thought maybe I just wasn’t inputting tasks right. So I spent a whole afternoon meticulously writing detailed descriptions for everything. Every tiny step for a project, down to “buy coffee”. Result? My task list became this huge, overwhelming wall of text. I opened the app, saw that mess, and just closed it immediately. Not the vibe.
Actually Getting Somewhere
Alright, feeling pretty dumb, I stopped tinkering blindly and actually tried to watch how I naturally worked with the card.
- Set Simple Goals I Can See: Dumped those complex project breakdowns. Instead, for each project I’m working on, I set just ONE main thing I gotta finish that week. Stuck it right on the main card view where I can’t miss it. Suddenly, I knew exactly what mattered most.
- Clean Up the Tag Circus: Scrapped almost all my old tags. Seriously, hit delete on like 80% of them. Now I only use a few super clear ones: “Work”, “Home”, “Waiting On”, “Someday”. Less is way more here. Finding stuff is suddenly possible.
- Two-Minute Rule FTW: Changed how I add tasks big time. If something pops into my head that’ll literally take two minutes or less? I stop whatever I’m doing right then and just… do it. Boom, gone. No adding it, no forgetting it later. This cleared out so much stupid mental clutter.
- Do the Weekly Sweep: Picked a time – Sunday afternoon for me – to just sit down, look at the whole card, clean up completed stuff, make sure the goals for the next week are set, and ditch anything that just isn’t happening anymore. Feels like hitting a reset button. Starts the week fresh.
Where I’m At Now
Is it perfect? Nah. But after doing these four things consistently, my Joshua Card finally feels useful instead of stressful. It’s not about having some super fancy system anymore; it’s about keeping it simple and actually using it without wanting to throw my phone out the window.

Stick to the basics, watch how you naturally work, and just clean it up regularly. Don’t overcomplicate it like I did at first! That’s the real key.
