I reckon it all started with that Goose’s KZ1000. Heard tell it was a 1977 model, fixed up all special-like. Some fellas in Melbourne, La Parisienne they called ’em, they slapped a racer fairin’ and tail on it, made it look real mean. And them Lester mags, shiny they was, like a rooster’s spurs in the sun.
Now, most of them fellas in the movie, they rode them Kawasaki KZ1000s, them big ol’ bikes from the seventies. They was powerful, see, real fast, good for chasin’ or runnin’ away, dependin’ on what trouble you got yourself into.
- There was this fella, Dale Bensch, he joined up for the movie, doin’ all sorts of crazy stunts.
- And that Toecutter, mean as a snake, leadin’ his gang of Nightriders. He was trouble, I tell ya.
That Goose’s bike, that highway patrol one, it was somethin’ special. Built just for the movie, lookin’ like them endurance racers, the kind they used in them Bol D’Or races. Fast and tough, that’s what it was.
Motorcycles in Mad Max, they ain’t just there for show, you know? They’re like part of the folks ridin’ ’em, showin’ who they are, wild and free and dangerous. They’re a big part of what makes Mad Max, well, Mad Max.

I saw this article, this fella was talkin’ ’bout the bikes, R1s and YZ450s they mentioned. Lots of different bikes over the years, I reckon. But it ain’t just about the bikes, see? It’s about the people ridin’ ’em, what they stand for.
