Looking for waiver wire week 5 gems? These are the potential league winners you need to consider adding!

Alright, another week in the books, Week 4 is done and dusted. That means it’s time to roll up the sleeves and dive into the waiver wire for Week 5. It’s become a ritual for me Tuesday mornings.

My Process This Week

First thing I did was check my scores and my rosters. Had a couple of tough losses, and honestly, saw some players just not pulling their weight. Plus, injuries, always the injuries. Got a running back who went down, looks like he might miss some time. My WR3 also put up another stinker. Definitely needed to make some moves.

So, the main goals were clear: find a usable Running Back and maybe grab a Wide Receiver with some potential. Possibly a defense streamer too, depending on the matchups.

I opened up my league page, went straight to the available players list. Started sorting through them. I usually look at a few things:

  • Who scored well last week (gotta see who popped).
  • Projected points for Week 5 (just as a rough guide).
  • Crucially, targets for WRs/TEs and carries/snaps for RBs. Opportunity is king.

Spent some time looking at the running backs. Saw one guy, a backup, who got a lot of touches after the starter got hurt. I checked some news blurbs, seems the main guy is likely out for a bit. Okay, put a star next to his name mentally. He shot up my list. Another RB had a decent fantasy score, but it was mostly one long touchdown run. Not consistent opportunity, felt more like chasing points. Decided to pass on him for now.

Then I looked at receivers. Found one guy whose targets really jumped up last week. Seems like the QB started looking his way more consistently. That’s the kind of trend I like to see. Put him on the list too, maybe as a secondary target. Saw another receiver with a big score from a bomb, but only saw like two targets total. Too boom-or-bust for what I need right now.

Next step, I checked the upcoming matchups for Week 5. The RB I liked? He’s got a pretty decent matchup against a team that gives up yards on the ground. Good sign. The WR? He’s facing a tougher pass defense. Made me hesitate a little, maybe lowered his priority slightly compared to the RB.

Now, the tough part: deciding who to drop. Looked at the bottom of my bench. That WR3 I mentioned earlier? Yeah, time to cut bait. Gave him enough chances. Also had a backup tight end who hasn’t seen a single target in weeks. He was an easy drop too.

Finally, set my waiver claims. Put the RB as my top priority. He filled the biggest need, and the opportunity looks real. Decided to put a decent chunk of my remaining budget on him. You gotta be aggressive sometimes. Then I put in a smaller bid for that WR with the rising targets. If I miss out on the RB, maybe I can still snag him. Added a couple of speculative $0 claims for a defense and maybe a QB streamer just in case my main options fell through.

Double-checked all the claims – who I was adding, who I was dropping, the bid amounts. Made sure the priority order was right. Then I hit submit.

And now? We wait. Waivers run overnight. Always a bit anxious to see what happens, if my bids were high enough, or if someone else snagged my guys. That’s the game. Hopefully, things work out for Week 5!
