Alright, guys, so I wanted to make a cool poster for UFC 273. I’m a huge MMA fan, and this card was stacked, so I figured, why not try my hand at designing something?

First, I gathered some images. I knew I wanted the main event fighters, Volkanovski and The Korean Zombie, front and center. So, I looked for some high-quality photos of them, preferably action shots. You know, something that really captures the intensity of the fight.
Next, I opened up my trusty old photo editing software. Nothing fancy, just something I’m comfortable with. I created a new canvas, poster size, of course. I played around with the background a bit. Initially, I thought about a plain black background, but it felt kinda boring. Eventually, I went with a dark, smoky, almost grungy look. I think it fit the vibe of a UFC event pretty well.
Then, I started arranging the fighter images. I put Volkanovski and The Korean Zombie facing each other, like they were about to throw down. I added some effects, like shadows and glows, to make them pop a bit more. I wanted it to look dramatic, you know?
Fiddling with the Details
- I also added photos of the fighters from the co main event Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan.
- After the fighters images were set, I started working on the text. Obviously, I needed the UFC 273 logo, the date, and the location.
- I played with different fonts for a while. I finally choose one.
- I arranged the text around the fighter images, to make the images look balanced.
I spent a good few hours tweaking everything. Moving things around, changing colors, adjusting effects, all that jazz. It’s a lot of trial and error, really. You just keep messing with it until it looks right.
Finally, I was happy with the result. It wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely something I was proud of. I saved the poster and showed it off to some of my friends. They seemed to like it, which was a nice bonus!
