Looking Back at F1 1966 Honda: A Season of Innovation

Alright, let’s talk about this… uh… f1 1966 Honda thing. Don’t know much about these fancy cars, but I’ll tell ya what I heard.

Looking Back at F1 1966 Honda: A Season of Innovation

So, back in 1966, them Honda fellas, they were kinda new to this racing thing, see? They weren’t around for all the races that year. Missed a bunch, they did. But then, they came back, like a bad penny, with a brand new engine. A big one, they said. A “V12,” whatever that means. Sounded powerful though, like a tractor on steroids.

This fella, Richie Ginther, he used to drive for some other team, Cooper, I think. But he went back to Honda. Guess he liked them big engines. They raced in Italy, at a place called Monza. Folks were worried about that new engine, see? Always something to worry about with them newfangled things.

Now, there was another fella, John Surtees. He was a big shot, won a championship before. But his boss, this Dragoni fella, he wouldn’t let him race in some other race, the Le Mans thing. Don’t know why, maybe he was afraid Surtees would break his car. These fancy cars, they break easy, you know. Not like my old pickup.

  • 1966 was a big year, they say.
  • Lots of changes in racing.
  • Honda was part of it, even if they missed some races.

They had these smaller races too, F-2 they called ‘em. Honda was good at those. Dominated, they said. Guess those little engines were easier to handle than them big V12s.

This whole thing, it was a championship, see? The 1966 Formula One World Championship, they called it. Big deal, I guess. Lots of races all over the place. People kept track of who won, who started first, all that stuff. Sounded like a lot of fuss to me.

There’s even a place on the internet, Old Racing Cars they call it, where you can see all about them Honda cars. All the races they did, from 1966 all the way to 1985. That’s a long time to be racing cars. Don’t know what they do with all them old cars, probably just sit around rusting.

And speaking of rusting, they say Honda stopped racing for a while, you know? To work on things that don’t make so much smoke, “carbon neutral” they call it. Fancy words for clean air, I reckon. But then they went back to racing with some other team, Red Bull. And won some more!

Now they’re talking about coming back all on their own in 2026, with another team, Aston Martin. Guess they can’t stay away from them racing cars. Always something new with them fellas. Always gotta be the fastest, the best. Just like my grandson with his bicycle. Always wants to be the fastest in the neighborhood.

So, that’s the story of f1 1966 Honda, as best as I can tell ya. A bunch of fellas racing cars, some with big engines, some with small engines. Some winning, some losing. And Honda, they were right in the middle of it all, even when they weren’t. They came, they went, they came back again. Just like the seasons, you know? Always changing, always something new.

If you wanna know more, go look it up on that internet thing. Too much for this old brain to remember. But one thing’s for sure, them Honda fellas, they sure did make a splash in 1966. And they’re still making splashes today, it seems. Those racing cars, they’re something else, I tell ya. Loud and fast, just like life, I guess.
