Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my grip lately, trying to get a better feel for my throws. I heard about this “Garrett Engle” grip, some people are talking about it, so I decided to give it a shot. It’s not some magic trick, it’s more like a slight tweak, but I gotta say, it’s been interesting.
First thing I did was just kinda hold the disc normally, you know, my usual power grip. Then, I shifted things around a bit. The main idea, from what I understood, is to get the disc a little deeper into your palm.
Experimenting with the Feel
- Fingers: I Played around with my index finger, I tried curling it tighter and I played with different pressures on the rim.
- Palm: I really focused on how the disc sat in my palm. I tried pushing the disc further back to contact more area.
- Thumb: I messed around with the thumb placement, finding a spot where it felt secure but not too restricting.
It felt kinda weird at first, not gonna lie. Like, I was so used to my old grip that this new one felt a little… off. But I stuck with it, throwing some practice shots in my backyard.
I started with some short throws, just trying to get used to the new hand position. I wasn’t aiming for distance or anything, just focusing on a smooth release.
Gradually, I started to increase the power, throwing a little further each time. And you know what? I did notice a bit more… snap, I guess you could call it. It felt like the disc was coming out of my hand a little cleaner, a little faster.
I spent a good hour just throwing, adjusting, and throwing some more. I filmed it to see the difference.
It’s still early days, and I’m definitely not saying this is the perfect grip for everyone. But for me, it’s been a worthwhile experiment. I feel like I have a bit more control, and I’m getting a slightly cleaner release. I’ll keep working on it, see how it goes over the next few weeks. It’s all about finding what works best for you, right?
