This year that college bowl, it’s a big deal, you know? Just like our village’s annual harvest festival, everyone’s all excited and placing their bets. Them young folks, running around on the field, chasing that ball. I don’t always get it, but it sure is fun to watch.

I heard them talking, saying this year’s college bowl projections, it’s gonna be a real nail-biter. Just like when we’re waiting to see if the crops will make it through the summer drought. All that college football playoff stuff, it is like picking the best pumpkin from the patch for the autumn festival. You gotta choose wisely, or you’ll end up with nothing but seeds and disappointment.
Who’s gonna play who?
Well, let me tell you, it’s like trying to guess which hen will lay the most eggs. You can make your guesses, but them chickens, they got a mind of their own. Same with them football teams. They say Louisiana might go up against North Texas. Sounds like a real showdown to me! Like two roosters in a cockfight, neither one wanting to back down.
And then there’s all these other games they’re talking about. Boca Raton Bowl. What in tarnation is that? Sounds fancy. It’s all beyond me, but the young folks seem to know what they’re talking about. They’re always going on about these college football bowl projections, like it’s the gospel truth. They read it in them fancy magazines, hear it on the radio, they know everything.
What is a bowl game anyway?
Well, seems to me it’s like a big party. A big party for them football players. They play all year, and then at the end, they get these special games. It’s like our end-of-harvest shindig, but with a lot more running and tackling.
- They got different names for these games.
- Some sound important, some sound, well, not so much.
- But they all seem to matter to them players.
- It’s like winning a blue ribbon at the county fair, I reckon.
And these projections, they are like trying to predict the weather. You can look at the clouds, feel the wind, but you never really know for sure until it happens. But folks like to guess. Makes them feel like they’re in on the secret, I suppose. Just like old man Hem used to predict rain by the ache in his knee, these folks predict football games by looking at all sorts of things.

All them teams and players
Lordy, there’s so many teams and so many players. It’s like trying to count all the stars in the sky. You just can’t do it. But each one of them players, they got their own story. They work hard, they sweat, they bleed. Just like us folks working in the fields, they put their heart and soul into it. I don’t always understand what’s going on, with all the rules and such, but I respect the hard work.
They say there is one player, the best of the best, the No.1 recruit. Sounds like the prize bull at the state fair. Everyone wants him. Everyone’s watching him. The pressure on that boy must be something fierce. But you know what, I think that young folks, they can handle it. They are all so strong and determined. I really don’t know how they keep all them names in order. Them teams have weird names too. The Ragin’ Cajuns. What is that about? We never had nothin’ like that back in my day. We just had the Elm Street Cobras, plain and simple.
Why folks care so much about this
Well, I’ll tell you, it’s something to talk about. Something to get excited about. In the winter, when the fields are bare and the days are short, it gives folks something to look forward to. Just like waiting for spring planting, this college bowl season, it’s a sign that things are changing. A sign of hope, maybe. I don’t know. It is like when folks used to talk to the village’s fortune teller. They just wanna know what is coming in the future.
Plus, it’s a bit of fun, ain’t it? We all like a bit of competition. A bit of drama. It’s like watching a good horse race, or a pie-eating contest. You don’t know who’s gonna win, but you’re on the edge of your seat waiting to find out. And when your team wins, well, that’s just the best feeling in the world. Like when your cow gives the most milk, or your apple tree has the sweetest fruit.
So, yeah, these college bowl projections, they’re a big deal. Maybe not for everyone, but for a lot of folks. It is a tradition. Just like Thanksgiving, the New Year’s Eve. It’s something to look forward to. Something to enjoy. It is always something new, you know, like our village is going to build a new road, those college football insider always have something new to talk about. And even if you don’t understand all the ins and outs, you can still appreciate the spectacle of it all. Them young folks running and jumping, the crowd cheering, the excitement in the air. It’s something to behold, that’s for sure. This 2024, I hope that will be a good one for them all.

I reckon that’s all I got to say about that. It’s all a bit much for an old lady like me, but I try to keep up. Keeps the mind young, you know? Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got some chores to do. The chickens ain’t gonna feed themselves, you know. But hey, maybe I will turn the radio on, catch a bit of that football talk. Never know, might learn something new.
